Suspected Houthi Drone Hit Town In Saudi Arabia’s Jizan

On February 26, a drone allegedly launched by the Houthis (Ansar Allah) hit the town of al-Judaieen in the southern Saudi province of Jizan.

In a statement, the Saudi-led coalition claimed that the drone “crashed” in the town without causing any casualties or material losses. The coalition didn’t explain how the drone was able to bypass its air defenses.

The Houthis have not claimed responsibility for the drone attack, yet. However, the coalition said that the drone was launched by the group from Sanaa International Airport near the Yemeni capital.

“The [Houthis’] attack was a deliberate and systematic attempt to target civilians,” the coalition said in its statement, which was shared by the Saudi Press Agency.

The Houthis’ most recent drone and missile attacks targeted Saudi-led coalition proxies in Yemen. Over the last few weeks, the group slowed down its attacks on Saudi Arabia and halted its operations against the United Arab Emirates. In return, the coalition halted much of its ground operations in central Yemen.

Now, the Houthis appear to be planning to escalate their attacks on Saudi Arabia once again. This may be an attempt to pressure the Saudi-led coalition into ending its ongoing operations in Yemen’s northwestern region.
