On July 9, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) repelled a large militant attack on their positions in the Turkman mountain area in northern Lattakia.
During the first phase of the attack, members of the al-Qaeda-affilated coalition Wa-Harid Al-Mu’minin captured the village of Atterah and the nearby hilltop forcing SAA and NDF members to withdraw. Nonetheless, government forces re-groupped and launched a counter-attack backed by the Air Force. This counter-attack allowed the SAA and the NDF to take back the area captured by militants.
According to pro-government sources, over 20 militants were killed and a dozen others were wounded in the clashes. Nonetheless, this number still has to be confirmed.

Why in the world doesn’t Syria put its troops at Turkey borders ? It is incredible what SAA has been doing at Idlib.
What border ?? The only border that Syria have is +- 21km line from coast to Rebel territory… Thats all
First of all they have to get to the border and remove all the rebels along the way. No use sending a truck load of troops to the border if that is the last you see or hear of them.. Of course they could go and ask the Rebels if is OK but I think the answer would not be heard over the gunfire..
This is rugged terrain. Seems that neither side can move the front line much. I don’t see the value in SAA giving this area a priority, just a lot of hills and small villages.
Maybe because Latakia is home to the Russian Khmeimim air base that keeps getting attacked by armed drones.
The Jihadist trash drones are launched much more to the east. I would guess, N Hama etc. I still think this area is not worth the effort for SAA, except for defensive. :)
it is the most important part for SAA or jihadi Forces, because it is the Gateway to KABANI….a mountaintop town overlookinng the plains of Idlib and the strategic jihadi town of jish shghour. SAA tried 6 times storming KABANI in the last 3 weeks…plenty of articles here at southfront or almasda News…..because of ist highground, the jihadis were able to beat back all SAA offenses with 200+ dead and more wounded………and as mentioned above….without KABANI……. no Idlib offensive!!!!
so how can the jihadis on the highground there be eliminated finally?
Turkey is throwing money into Idlib and Libya and their MB ‘friends’ Qatar has lots of money. And the US/UK have been backing that same Muslim Brotherhood crew, under the table for 50 years. So pray China backs Assad and the Shia.
Are we looking at the same map? This section is a good distance west of Kabani, and will not affect the fight. :)
It seems now that the SAA are getting closer to this part of the border, that is one hell of a leap and extremely good news.
Perhaps pushing north from ra’ei , thats the shortest way to the border, but its really nasty terrain there…
What would be better pushing the rats out of the mountain from the west or coming east fro. Aleppo and push them east.
Or would you rsther a north south? Its a tough nut to crack up there.
What saa been doing ?bombing innocent people you should go and fight for saaa and day 1 you will lose your arshole

Right now this whole Episode in Idlib..North hama and Latakia is pathetic by the syrian political Leadership. Everybody knows that TAF(turkish armed Forces) are directly helping Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.The help is provided through the so called Observation Posts, which were all created on “higher Ground” ie. hilltops,mountaintops….., as southfront showd last week, with Fotos, the jihadis are using exactly those “higher grounds”n next to the turkish Posts as their own “Observation Posts” with full Knowledge from TAF. Further more….TAF has fired dozens of mortars and artillery rounds at SAA positions during last weeks Fighting.
and as far as afrin is concearned.afrin is annexed already.All citizens loyal to the kurds or assad Government were virtually kicked out of their farms , houses,apartments and jiahdi families which got a free pass to Idlib through These bs evacuation agreeemntss, aleppo,douma etc.. moved in.Language changed in Schools…currency changed…town names changed…Village names changed etc… same procedure as the fucking jews did in Palestine………
also last week in articles here and at almasda News and fars News, it was written that Turkey has informed Russia that Turkey intends to Annex Idlib, and that negociations are on going between Turkey and Russia About Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and its removal from syria.
now after the last 3 weeks of chaos and inferior SAA attacks against kabani(6 times stormed, 200+ SAA dead and alot more wounded) in Latakia..the most imporatant mountaintop town to capture for SAA if it wants to attack the main jihadi stronghold of jish shghour in Idlib. same for n.hama and the strategic town of khan sheikhoun which SAA lost during last 3 weeks of Fighting and although stormed another 5 times was not able to conquer back to this day. And the continuing pouring in of Turkish Forces and loads of weapons for their jihadi Brothers to Idlib, without having to fear either the syrian airforce or russian airforce, Points to either great incompetence on the side of syria and Russia….or a deal was made already and they are Keeping it secret for now.
Syrialiveuamaps has just reported that a convoy of 150 Turkish military vehicles are now headed to Idlib and that several of them have anti aircraft capabilities, but the report doesn’t specify what sort of AA systems.
SAA tanks need to target them and destroy them, as well as russian help

Home Syria Turkish-backed jihadists ruthlessly behead Syrian soldier, post severed head on his Facebook
BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:30 A.M.) – The Turkish-backed jihadist rebels in northern Latakia carried out a new operation this week that targeted the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions in the Turkmen Mountains. At first, the jihadist rebels were able to achieve some success at the Jabal Turkmen front; however, they would later see all of their gains reversed by the Syrian Arab Army.
During their operation, the jihadist rebels killed more than ten Syrian border guards and army soldiers, with most of the casualties coming at the start of the militant attack. The pro-jihadist media outlets like Akhbar Al-Sahel Al-Shami later released photos from the attack, showing some Syrian border guards that were killed during the start of the operation. Among the dead Syrian border guards was 23-year-old Ibrahim Ahmad Berri of Aleppo city. Berri’s body was stripped of its possessions by the jihadist rebels, who took a keen interest in his cell phone. The jihadist rebels would then behead the Syrian border guard and then photograph his severed head to post later on his Facebook account.

The Berri family of Aleppo was one of the first clans to join the National Defense Forces (NDF) in Aleppo in 2013; they have lost several members of the family since the start of the war. The jihadists behind the beheading are believed to be members of the Turkestan Islamic Party, which is a foreign terrorist group that currently occupies several areas in the Latakia and Idlib governorates.
