On Sunday, Syria’s Minister of the Interior Mohammad al-Shaar told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that Syria and Jordan had agreed to reopen the strategic Nasib border crossing on Monday.

Jordan’s minister for Media Affairs, Jumana Ghunaimat, confirmed to the Jordanian news agency (Petra) that Nasib will be reopened on Monday and said that Syria and Jordan agreed on all measures necessary to reopen the border crossing.

”The Jordanian-Syrian technical committees agreed on the final measures necessary to reopen the border crossing between the two countries during the meeting which was held on Sunday at the Jaber Border Center … The meetings led to an agreement to open the border crossing as of Monday,” Ghunaimat said.

Last month, the Ministry of Transport of Syria said that the strategic Nasib crossing on the Syrian-Jordanian border will be reopened in the first third of October. However, the crossing remained closed. Later, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said that Nasib will be reopened once all necessary arrangements are agreed upon.

Jordan and Syria are expected to earn significant revenue from shipping and transit annually once the Nasib crossing is reopened. Furthermore, the reopening of the crossing will facilitate the return of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, who are currently living in camps on the Syrian-Jordanian border.

A step in the right direction. Syria needs to rebuild it’s trade and economy.

Jordan has been a FUKUS colony since 1920. It would be nice to think that Jordan could join with Syria to evict the FUKUS invaders and gain their freedom.
