Syria: Tiger Forces Conduct Military Operations in Northern Palmyra

AlMasdarNews reports:

The Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” – backed by the 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division, Liwaa Al-Fatemiyoun (Afghani paramilitary, and National Defense Forces (NDF) – continued their advance in the northern countryside of Palmyra (Tadmur) on Wednesday, capturing more of this rugged territory near the east Homs gas pipeline.

The Syrian Armed Forces began their assault by advancing west from Brigade 550 towards the ‘Antar Mountains that were under the control of the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).

Following a violent battle that lasted for six hours on Wednesday, the Syrian Armed Forces finally imposed full control over the ‘Antar Mountains after ISIS abandoned their fortifications to retreat north to Murbet Al-Hassan Mountains.

According to a military source at the T-4 Military Airport in east Homs, the Syrian Armed Forces killed just over 15 enemy combatants at the ‘Antar Mountains, including a number of foreign fighters from Morocco and Saudi Arabia.

Elsewhere, the Syrian Arab Army’s 120th Brigade of the 2nd Division and Liwaa Al-Fatemiyoun attempted to advance south of the Palmyra Military Airport; however, they were reportedly repelled by ISIS after a short battle that resulted in the death of 4 SAA soldiers and 5 Fatemiyoun fighters.

On Mar.27 the pro-government forces liberated the ancient city of Palmyra and the adjacent Palmyra Airbase in Eastern Homs completing an anti-ISIS operation that began on Mar.7. Since this moment, the SAA and its allies have been conducting operations in order to secure the area.
