The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) 4th Division has ceased its military operation in northern Lattakia and redeployed most of its units to the northern Hama countryside, the al-Masdar News, a pro-government blog, reported on June 21.
The SAA kicked off its military operation in northern Lattakia last May. The army secured several key positions between the highest point in the al-Zuiyqat mount and point 1154 near the strategic Kurd mount. However, it failed to penetrate militants’ defenses around the strategic town of Kabani.
According to al-Masdar News, most of the 4th Division units, including elite 42nd Brigade known as Ghiath Forces, have been redeployed to the Towns of Kafr Nabudah in northern Hama.
“The 4th Armored Division will reportedly take part in the Syrian Arab Army’s new push to secure Kafr Nabudah’s eastern flank, which is currently exposed because the jihadist rebels control the imperative hilltop of Tell Saker,” al-Masdar News reported quoting a military source.
The deployment of the 4th Division will boost the SAA’s offensive capabilities in northern Hama. In the last few days, the army begin what appears to be preparations to resume its ground operations in the region.
