Late on July 16, the Syrian Air Defense Force intercepted an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the central governorate of Hama.
According to the Syrian state TV, the UAV was detected over the town of Salamiyah in the eastern countryside of Hama. Heavy anti-aircraft fire was reported by local sources. However, it remains unclear if the drone was shot down.
The unidentified UAV was probably on a reconnaissance mission. The drone didn’t attempt to attack any target inside Salamiyah or in its vicinity.

The UAV may have been launched from the northwestern region of Greater Idlib, which is controlled by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham. The al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group reportedly operates several type of DIY drones.
Over the past two years, dozens of drone attacks were launched from Greater Idlib on military and civilian installations in western, central and northern Syria. The vast majority of these attacks were foiled.
Last week, two armed UAVs attempted to attack Russia’s Hmeimim Air Base in southern Lattakia. Both drones were immediately shot down.

US AWAC’s were ‘aiding and abetting’ terrorist drones attacking the Russian airbase last year as well.
A no-fly zone already exists over Syria, and Iran is very well armed already. Including S-300, and S-400 systems.
