Cargo airplanes of the Syrian Air Force successfully dropped foodstuffs and ammunition for Syrian troops, stationed on the Deir ez-Zor military airfield, besieged by terrorists, the Al Mayadeen TV-channel reported. According to the TV-channel, all the cargos, equipped with parachute systems, landed on the territory of the base.

Deir ez-Zor city and the air base, located near it, are in a state of siege for more than three years. Delivery of food and ammunition is carried out only from the air, all the roads on the ground are blocked by terrorists.

On January 14, terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) group launched an offensive on Deir ez-Zor and the nearby base of the Syrian Air Force. In just a few days, IS terrorists, who sent large reinforcements to the area from neighboring Raqqa, managed to take a number of neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city and the territory of an abandoned military base, located in its suburbs, as well as completely surrounded the airbase, which is the last outpost of the Syrian Army in Deir ez-Zor.

Recently, the Syrian Air Force conducted a special operation and transported reinforcement to the airbase. After this, the airbase’s troops managed to force terrorists to retreat from the airfield’s boundaries. The Russian Aerospace Forces provide an air support for Syrian troops in the area. After massive air strikes on positions of IS terrorists, stationed near the city, military units of Deir ez-Zor city switched to the counterattack.
