Syrian Air Force officials deny abandoning Qamishli Airport

AlMasdarNews reports: Al-Qamishli, Syria (5:15 A.M.) – Rumors surfaced last week that the Syrian Arab Air Force was forced to move their aerial assets from the Al-Qamishli Airport after threats from the U.S. Air Force.

According to these rumors, the U.S. escorted every Syrian aircraft from the Al-Qamishli Airport to the Deir Ezzor Governorate, threatening to shoot them down if they did not comply.

A Syrian Air Force officer told Al-Masdar News on Monday this story is untrue and that they had just carried out airstrikes over the Deir Ezzor Governorate after taking off from the Al-Qamishli Airport.

The Syrian Air Force uses the Al-Qamishli Airport to support their ground forces in the Deir Ezzor Governorate; without this airbase, they would be forced to use the T-4 Military Airport in east Homs, which is typically under attack by the Islamic State.
