On January 27, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Tiger Forces, backed up by the Russian Aerospace Forces, captured the village of Tell al-Waz in the southwestern Aleppo countryside, north of Abu Duhur airbase, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA). During its advance the SAA killed and injured several fighters of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

Syrian opposition sources also revealed that general commander of HTS’ units around the Abu Duhur airbase “Abu Musab al-Suri” was killed in a Russian airstrike around the airbase. Four other field commanders of HTS “Abu Muhammad al-Zaim”, “Abu Basir Darat Azza”, “Abu Abdullah Termanin” and “Abu Obeida” were also killed in the same airstrike, according to the sources.

From its side, the HTS-linked news agency Iba’a reported that HTS’s artillery shelled several positions of the SAA in the southeastern Idlib countryside. However, HTS didn’t conduct any offensive operations against the SAA and its allies.

Several Syrian pro-government sources reported that the SAA and its allies will launch a new military operation to break the HTS siege on the towns of al-Fu’ah and Kafriya in the eastern Idlib countryside in the upcoming days. Meanwhile, opposition sources claimed that HTS is preparing to launch a wide-scale attack against the SAA around the Abu Duhur airbase.
