On April 29, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and local tribal fighters launched a military operation against the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Deir Ezzor capturing the villages of Junaynah, Jiyah, Shaqrah and Hoyqat ma’esha, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The SDF acknowledged the attack in an official statement and said that its units backed by the US-led collation are now working to repel it. The US-backed forces also accused the SAA of hindering its war on ISIS.
Meanwhile, Syrian opposition sources claimed that the SDF was able to recapture the village of Jiyah following a series of US-led coalition airstrikes on the SAA troops in the village. According to the sources, 22 fighters of the SDF and the SAA have been killed in the clashes so far.
Kurdish and Syrian oppositions activists claim that the attack was led by the Iranian-backed Baqir Brigade, that had vowed to fight the US-led coalition on April 6. On the other side, Syrian pro-government activists said that the offensive had been planned by local Arab fighters who want to recapture their villages from the Kurdish-dominated SDF.
The SAA launched a similar attack on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River on February 7 in order to capture a key gas facility from the SDF. However, the attack failed when the US-led coalition responded with heavy bombardment killing dozens of pro-government fighters, including some Russian private military contractors.
Local observers believe that the new attack will end soon, especially that both the US and Russia are determined to avoid any direct military conformation in Syria.

SAA does have the right under international law to reclaim their lands from squatters, and yes that includes the eastern bank of the Euphrates and the Golan Heights. Isn’t it amazing how people that are dead in the wrong can be so arrogant as Mathis, Pompeo and Nethanyahu? History will remember their names but not in a very nice way. Their descendants will bear out the shame.

I agree with yous all. But Syria just may be occupied by US for a long time. SAA, Iran, Russia cant and wont start a full scale assault other than few skirmishes because as mush as we would love too believe otherwise they dont want to engage US . And would ultimately loose. And cant afford it .This is not just military conflict but they’re is a diplomatic front and propaganda war that Syrian Russia Iran alliance will have to maneuver them on. US occupation of east Dier Ezzore is unsustainable in long term – is based on a combination of the ethnic cleansing the Arabs in largest cities such as Raqqa, intended to be made ‘Kurdish’, and bribing local Arab tribes with US cash in smaller towns towards the south-east. All this has limited prospects before the actual inhabitants – Syrian Arabs – start rejecting it.
So that was fun, another pointless operation. Let me give the SAA a piece of advice. You can’t launch a massive attach with only a few square miles of territory on 1 side of a river. It won’t work and never will work. I see this as more of a probe to see if the ARAB and Kurd alliance is strong. Judging by the fact that all of the villages have already been recaptured in a matter of hours shows that the coalition is strong.
You are only right in that it was just a probe but Wrong on everything else. The SAA pulled back on its own before any air strike could hit so the USSA only bombed sand. The SAA captured the villages quickly and easily proving the Kurds are now a non existent fighting force. With no USSA support for the Kurds the SAA can capture all of eastern Syria in a few days.
The kurds are getting weaker by the day(as if they were ever strong to begin with)…
