On December 29, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Tiger Forces captured the strategic village of Abu Dali in the southern Idlib countryside, according to the SAA media department. The sources said that several fighters of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) were killed during the SAA attack on Abu Dali.
Abu Dali was captured by HTS in a rapid attack back on October 8. Since then, the strategic village has become a key defense point of HTS and its allies in southern Idlib.
Syrian pro-government sources also reported that the SAA and the Tiger Forces captured the villages of al-Hamdaniyah, Rumidin, al-Nasiryah and mount Daba’a in southern Idlib.
From its side, the HTS-linked news agency Iba’a claimed that HTS fighters destroyed a Kornet ATGM launcher and injured several SAA soldiers after targeting their position in the village of Umm Haratayn with an ATGM. HTS also killed or injured a group of SAA soldiers in al-Mushrifah village with IEDs, according to Iba’a.
With the HTS defense collapsing in the southern Idlib countryside, observers believe that the SAA and the Tiger Forces will launch attacks from new directions in the upcoming days to exploit HTS’ lack of manpower and equipment.
