On Thursday, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies recaptured the strategic al-Bishri Mountain from ISIS in the western part of Deir Ezzor Governatore, according to pro-government sources.
The Al-Bishri Mountain is located north of al-Shula and Bir Ghabaghib villages on the al-Sukhnah-Deir Ezzor highway. Furthermore, The Al-Bishri Mountain is one of the highest positions in the desert in the Raqqa-Deir Ezzor-Homs triangle.
Russian warplanes conducted dozens airstrikes on ISIS targets supporting the SAA advance in the Al-Bishri Mountain area.
Meanwhile, opposition sources claimed that ISIS launched a new attack on SAA positions in the Ghanim al-Ali area in the southern Raqqa countryside. The SAA is still incapable of organizing an effective defense line because of a lack of the manpower in the area.
Many experts believe that the SAA will face more effective resistance from ISIS closer to Deir Ezzor city. Many sources – including the US-led coalition – claimed that there are at least 10,000 ISIS fighters now in Deir Ezzor city and its countryside mainly in al-Mayadin and al-Bukamal cities.
