On May 18, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Palestinian Liberation Army (PLA) captured several buildings around the al-Wassim mosque and the al-Uruba street in the northwestern part of the al-Hajar al-Aswad district, south of the city of Damascus, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The SANA said that the SAA is on the verge of besieging the remaining fighters of ISIS in al-Hajar al-Aswad.
Syrian pro-government sources reported that warplanes and helicopters of the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) had carried out a series of heavy airstrikes on ISIS positions in the districts of al-Hajar al-Aswad, al-Tadamon and the Yarmouk refugee camp in support for the SAA.
From its side, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq claimed that ISIS fighters had killed 11 SAA soldiers during clashes in al-Hajar al-Aswad district and the Yarmouk camp. ISIS fighters also destroyed two BMP-1 armored vehicles and damaged two battle tanks of the SAA, according to Amaq.
A new report of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that over 227 fighters of ISIS have been killed since the beginning of the SAA attack in southern Damascus on April 19. Local observers believe that more than 1,500 fighters of terrorist group are still fighting there.
