Syrian Army Captures New Positions In Southern Idlib, Closes In On Khan Shaykhun

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued its advance in southern Idlib on August 21, imposing control of many positions west of the newly-captured village of Tar’i.

Muraselon, a pro-government news outlet, reported that army units secured Tai’i farms, the sugar factory and the area of al-Susah.

A few hours earlier, the SAA captured Tar’i and its key hilltop following heavy clashes with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies.

Army units are now less 5km away from the key town of Khan Shaykhun. The Tiger Forces are stationed in the town’s northern part and on the nearby Damascus-Aleppo highway.

The SAA will likely besiege the remaining militants’ positions in northern Hama soon. Initial reports indicate that the militants are planning to withdraw instead of fighting the already lost battle.

Good news!

It’s better the besiege and kill all of them before they manage to withdraw. When the SAA eliminates all of them in Northern Hama, this will ease the battle for the rest of Idlib, because the SAA wouldn’t have to fight against hundreds of more terrorists. Plus eliminating them in pocket is way easier then to fight them in the rest of this zoo.

Yeah! Close the gap and annihilate all jihad Turkscum inside!

Sorry dude we are not like that. The Debaltsevo cauldron was another example. It is the terrorists who kill people for the sake of it. We will win because we do not. Peace!!

Oscar Carrilero

Better let them go. The presence of Jihadists in the rest of Idlib will be a clear justification for liberation. Otherways We will reach a Mexican stand off.

It’s better for Syria to recapture territory that’s intact and functioning to avoid job loss and rebuilding costs.

Seems the are following the same strategy that defeated the Ukrainians in the Donbass. Coincidence or the same cool thinking and advice.

Any sources for that? Regards

Bit difficult, but its called ‘kettling. They pincer off a part – cut it off – and then clean it out. You are watching it right now in idlib. This was the most famous of the kettling in the donbass – a great victory for the donbass. But they used it to a lesser degree throughout the campaign https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Debaltseve From this you may be able to see the tactics. Otherwise google kettling military strategy donbass.

Idlibstan is game over. Greater turkey is game over. Kurdistan is game over. The turks can use the “idlib-rebels” to fight the “kurd rebels” east of eufrat river. Turkey saves face. Assad gets back Syria. Putin saver of the world for now. America loser but with a little help from Reuters & co Everybody in the free world can think they won. Almost everybody happy.. .

I would imagine that the militants have been pulling out to the north before their escape corridor was cut off. Hopefully the SAF and RAF have cratered the key roads, culverts and bridges to force their vehicles onto a few smaller roads where the traffic jams will be easy targets for artillery and aircraft.

Defeat to rebel fighters this time, congrats to Assad and Co. I hope no innocent life has been taken in this conquest.
