The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies have established control over 85% of the city of al-Bukamal after a series of fierce clashes with ISIS, the Hezbollah media wing in Syria reported on November 19.
The media outlet added that 150 ISIS members have also fled the city using underground tunnels to the eastern bank of the Euphrates. Some of them allegedly moved to the area controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
If the SAA advance is confirmed, pro-government forces will likely establish a full control over the city soon.

I don’t believe that they have tunnels crossing the Euphrates river. Maybe SAA should have encircled the city before. Many senior ISIS leaders are presumed to hide in Al Bukamal.
I very much believe they have tunnels crossing the Euphrates River . As the plan is for SDF to “occupy” the east bank . From there they can easily send a squads into A/B on an ongoing basis . They have had many months to prepare for this hold-out , if they can stop SAA from gaining real control of the city , SAA can not control the border and the US has opportunity to do so .
Crossing a river with a tunnel is technically extremely challenging. None of their tunnels I have seen before in videos show this level of technology. No, they don’t have tunnels across Euphrates.
No, they use tunnels to get out of the city undetected and then cross the river. Of course there are no tunnels under the river!

Syrian army captured tons of US made weapons and equipment in Mayadin.
Then the SAA need to cross the Euphrates at al buchmal to occupy the settlements on the other side so the SAA can build up their military forces there for any needed push to Kobani etc.
