The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has deployed a Soviet-made 36D6 [NATO designated Tin Shield] long-range radar near the Damascus international airport, a satellite image released by Israeli defense observer Observer IL on June 15 revealed.

The 36D6 mobile radar system was designed to detect air targets and to perform the friend-of-foe identification. The system, which has a maximum range of 350km, is highly effective in detecting low, medium and high altitude targets, moving in wide speed range, including winged missiles with RCS equal to 0,1 m.
One of the radar’s key features is that it can be s used as a reconnaissance and targeting system for the S-300 air-defense system, which is already in service with the Syrian Arab Air Defense Force (SyAADF).

According to Observer IL, the 36D6 radar replaced a Chinese-made YJ-27 radar that was destroyed in the January 20 Israeli airstrikes on Syria.
The deployment of the 36D6 radar will improve the SyAADF’s early warning capabilities, especially over the southern and southeastern parts of the country.

rumors are that Syria hasn’t been given long range missiles for their S-300s. And haven’t been given advanced targeting radars. This 36D6 is a step in the right direction. All Syria needs now are long range missiles for their S-300 and full permission to use it

yup. That’s the problem here though. Syria received S-300PM2 but was never given long range missiles or advanced anti-stealth targeting radars. They were only given basic radars from the 1980’s and short range S-300 missiles with max range of 40 km

Only Russians laser defense systems are going to be able to protect these radars. The laser weapons wont be shooting down these far away Jewish aircraft, but they will operate with a 99%+ efficiency rating for sure.
