The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has deployed reinforcements in central Syria and intensified its operations against ISIS cells in the region, the Syrian daily Al Watan reported on December 4.
The army deployed additional troops and equipment in the eastern desert of the ancient city of Palmyra in the eastern Homs countryside.
At the same time, the army intensified its combing operations in the outskirts of the town of al-Sukhnah in the eastern Homs countryside, where several small gas and oil fields are located, as well as in the southwestern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
Citing a Syrian military sources, Al Watan said that “many” terrorists of ISIS were killed in recent SAA operations in the central region, mainly in the outskirts of Palmyra.
ISIS cells in central Syria have been waging and insurgency against government forces and their allies for around four years now.
Recently, the terrorist group received a major blow when its top leader Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi was killed in a joint operation by government forces and former rebels in the southern Syrian governorate of Daraa.
Abu al-Hussein al-Hashimi al-Qurashi succeeded Abu al-Hassan as the new “caliph” of the terrorist group, as announced in an audio message on November 30. ISIS cells in Syria has already pledged allegiance to Abu al-Hussein, acknowledging him as their leader.
The SAA continue to play a key role in the war on ISIS. The army and its allies appear to be preparing to further escalate their operations against the terrorist group in the central region and other parts of Syria.
All this is still going on 5 years after the start of the Russian intervention in Syria because of that damn Al Tanf base. That place needs to be turned into molten glass and buried for good.
