On August 8, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) deployed additional reinforcements in the southern governorate of Daraa, where tensions continue to raise.
The reinforcements were deployed near the southern part of Daraa city, also known as Daraa al-Balad, where former rebels have been taking a stand against the authorities as well as in the town of Busra al-Harir in the eastern countryside of the governorate.
Videos shared by Syrian opposition activists revealed that the reinforcements included hundreds of troops and several battle tanks.

Early in the morning, the SAA clashed with former rebels in Daraa al-Balad. The army shelled the area with mortars. No causalities or material losses were reported, however.
Recently, the talks between Syrian authorities and Daraa al-Balad leaders faced a number setbacks. Russia made immense effort to revolve the governorate’s crisis peacefully. Yet, local leaders are still refusing to obey the authorities’ demands.
Syrian authorities want to expel more than a hundred wanted gunmen from Daraa al-Balad as well as to deploy several units of the SAA in the area.
The current stand of Daraa al-Balad leaders may eventually force the SAA to launch a full-on military operation in the area. This would be the worst case scenario. Both sides will sustain losses.
