The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) deployed a large force in the T2 Station near the border with Iraq on April 16, the pro-government al-Masdar News blog reported, citing a military source.
According to the source, the reinforcements were sent to the border area to secure the international highway linking Syria and Iraq as the two countries prepare to reopen the strategic Qa’im border crossing, that has been closed since 2012.
Last week, head of Iraq’s Border Crossing Authority Kazim al-Aqabi confirmed that the crossing will be reopened once all the requirements for commercial exchange and the passage of people are prepared.
“These requirements will be met within a maximum of six months,” al-Aqabi said.
Al-Masdar contradicted the timeline set by al-Aqabi and claimed that the Qa’im border crossing will be reopened before the end of April. The blog’s claims have not been confirmed or denied yet.
The Damascus government is in rush to reopen the Syrian-Iraqi border, as this could ease the economic crisis in the country. Furthermore, Damascus will be able to receive supplies directly from Tehran, once the border crossing is reopened.
The oil has already been transported.

Russia believes Damascus should regain control over NE Syria as soon as possible – Lavrov Published time: 17 Apr, 2019 12:51 Edited time: 17 Apr, 2019 14:23 Get short URL Moscow believes the Syrian government should regain control over the country’s northeastern region as soon as possible, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday. “There is a need to resolve the issue concerning the country’s northeast and the left bank of the Euphrates River in order to… ensure the restoration of the legitimate government’s control over the region,” Lavrov said at a news conference in Moscow. Among other important goals, the Russian top diplomat cited the need to build dialogue with the Kurds and secure the interests of Turkey “as far as security in Syria’s border areas is concerned,” TASS reports.
Turkish cooperation makes more sense in this context with a view to the Ankara attitude towards the so-called SDF proxies, whose hold is tenuous outside the Kurd areas limited to the far north of Syria.
Do you trust the Turks when the Yankers are still there ?.
But I hope you are right.
Yes there is still a big part of the Turkish military that are CIA assets.
Probably to guard it from terrorists that might suddenly materialize from the illegal al Tanf US base to the west. Everyone knows that base is just there to cut off Syria from Iraq.
