On September 2, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) artillery shelled and destroyed several rocket launchers of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) in the al-Ghab Plain and the villages of Sirmaniyah and al-Qarqur in northern Hama, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The SANA’s reporter in Hama also said that the SAA artillery shelled several positions and fortifications of HTS and its ally Jaysh al-Izza in the towns of Lataminah and Khirbat al-Naqus. At least two fighters of Jaysh al-Izza were killed as a result of the shelling.
According to the Damascus government, thousands of militants of HTS, the TIP, Jaysh al-Izza and other radical groups are stationed in the northern and northwestern Hama countryside. The SANA said that these militants are still receiving support from foreign powers.
The SAA and its allies have been preparing to launch a large-scale military operation to neutralize these militants for more than a month now. Local observers believe that the operation may begin within few weeks.
