On August 18, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) destroyed a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SBVIED) that attempted to target its newly-established positions northwest of the town of Khan Shaykhun in southern Idlib.
Pro-government sources said that the failed SVBIED attack coincided with heavy clashes. However, the militants failed to recapture any position.
Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that it was successful. However, the terrorist group didn’t release any photos confirming its claims.
Earlier, the SAA captured several large farms west and northwest of Khan Shaykhun as well as a high hilltop overseeing the Damascus-Aleppo highway.
The army positions northwest of Khan Shaykhun were subjected to a SVBIED attack by HTS, a day earlier. The vehicle exploded in the heart of government-held Madayah. However, the explosion caused minor losses, as most troops were deployed around the town.

Indeed, with very limited SAA casualties as Russian gunships supported every advance. It is quite apparent that all of Idlib will be liberated and there will be a Turkey shoot before X-mas.
And why not also Afrin and the rest of north Aleppo (the governorate)?
The real issue is manpower and also strategic locations. The first SAA priority is the secure major arterial roads like M5 which the Turkeys use as a major conduit to supply the headchoppers. Secondly, the key junctions like Khan Shaykun are also important as they have axis roads towards Latakia, where the CIA and Turkeys MIT is pushing their terrorists to attack Russian bases with longer range rockets and drones. So it makes sense to get control over terrorist supply routes. Keep in mind that there are 2.5 million civilian human shields the scum headchopper cowards are hiding behind. So far the SAA and Russians have used very precise strikes with very little collateral damage. All the photo evidence from the Khan Shaykun region shows that most of the buildings and infrastructure are intact and undamaged. The SAA has to careful not to open too many fronts at once.
The front in Afrin, al Bab and Azaaz is already active, with a guerrilla war against the occupier and its puppets. What I meant is this: The SAA aren’t going to stop in the borders of the Idlib governorate and after liberate Idlib will also take care of the turkish proxies in Afrin and the rest of the north of the Aleppo governorate.
Indeed, the SAA in the earlier days tried multiple offensives at the same time and became over extended, now they are more experienced and know what they are doing.

As I had predicted based on the disposition of SAA pincer and Russian softening up bombing pattern supported by extensive helicopter gun ship support, Khan Shaykun has been liberated. The shithead headchopper cowards did not put up much of a fight and ran off to their Turkeys who had fled earlier as the SAA had left M5 open for a few hours for the Turkeys to escape.

I had known that the terrorists would run thanks to very precise Russian airstrikes and the very effective use of low flying gunships that brought absolute devastation to the thin skinned Toyotas, the Russian Aerospace forces had destroyed most of the headchopper armor comprising T-55 and some BMP1 APC earlier on with SU-24/25 precision strikes. The headchopper cowards did not put up much of a fight and the SAA casualties have been very low. The new Russian army is very skilled and unlike Afghanistan in the 1980’s now use extensive GPS coordinates with Spetsnaz ground observers to direct accurate airstrikes in real times. Thanks. Al-Masdar is good but have not updated their website yet. The SAA advance into Khan Shaykoun was very swift and used heliborne special forces to seize the town centre.Russian gunships played a crucial part. The SAA now seems to have got its act together in coordinating focused combined arms operations and not spreading too thin. That also keeps the casualties low. It is good modern mechanized and ground air attack warfare by small units.As I have written earlier, the SAA would come out of this COIN war as perhaps the best Arab military and at par with Hezbollah in tactical mastery.

Soon that Turkish OB post at Murak will be totally surrounded by the SAA, and I think the SAA are only postponing their imminent pincer operation to surround it, to purposely allow the rebels an escape route out. I think it’s way better to take back territory you don’t have to fight for, it forces the same number of rebel to occupy ever decreasing areas of territory, which means resources are much scarcer for them all, tempers flare, and morale eventually suffers, and even better than that, it also forces an ever increasing numbers of rebels, to congregate in smaller and smaller areas, which makes it much easier to bomb them, LOL it’s all good news.
