In the course of the operation to eliminate terrorist groups in Kabun and Barzeh neighborhoods in the north of Damascus, the Syrian Army blocks all underground passages, dug by militants in the direction of neighboring Harasta.

On March 8, a large 300-meter long tunnel, which led from the eastern outskirt of Kabun to a base of armored vehicles of government troops, was discovered and blown up. The tunnel was dug to undermine the army base, however, militants failed to realize their plans.

There are many other tunnels, dug under Kabun for intercommunication of terrorists. Several of them were discovered during the government forces’ advancement in the gardens of Barzeh and on the outskirts of Kabun.

The clearing operation in Kabun and Barzeh was launched by the 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard and the 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Infantry Division on March 5. At that day, Syrian troops managed to take the gardens of Barzeh, located to the east of Kabun.

For the past four days, the Syrian Air Force, artillery and missile launchers have been constantly striking firing positions of terrorists in Kabun. An operation to assault the neighborhood is being prepared. On the night of March 10, reinforcement, consisting of units of the Republican Guard, which have experience of urban warfare and storming buildings, arrived to Kabun.
