Syrian Army Conducts Precision Strikes On Militants In Northern Hama

Illustrative image, by the SANA

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) developed its military operation in northern Hama and conducted a series of precision strikes on positions and equipment of the militants there in response to recent violations of the Russian-Turkish demilitarized zone agreement, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on January 2.

According to the state-run news agency, one of the strikes destroyed an up-armored bulldozer that advanced from the militants’ positions in the town of Maarkaba towards positions of the SAA south of it.

Other strikes targeted fortified positions and mortar positions of the militants in the towns of Tell Saker, al-Janabirah and al-Jariyah. The SANA’s reporter in Hama said that these strikes were a response to several attempts to attack the residential areas in the government-held town of Mahardah.

The SAA’s decision to step up its defense operations in the northern Hama countryside is a natural result for the repeated violations by the militants there. Turkey, which didn’t comply with its own commitment under the demilitarized zone agreement, remains among the main actors responsible for these violations.

I find the term ‘develop their operation’ a misdirection. As it implies that there is a military operation, or offensive going on. Which is not. The SAA is trying to stop Jihadis from infiltrating, in which case the correct term should be strengthening or improving their defenses. Bad journalism, SF, bad journalism.
