On August 24, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) discovered an ammo depot and a rocket factory, which were left behind by ISIS fighters, in the town of Sabikhan in the southern Deir Ezzor countryside during a security operation, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The ammo depot contained dozens of mortar rounds, local-made rockets, assault rifles and at least one RPG-29 “Vampir” reusable rocket-propelled grenade. The SAA also found several military and medical equipment and supplies.
“We are continuing our search operations in the eastern and western countryside of Al-Mayadeen area to remove all remnants of the terrorist organization [ISIS] in order to provide the greatest protection to the citizens,” an officer of the SAA told the SANA.
The SAA has been working to clear Deir Ezzor from ISIS remnants since its liberation from ISIS in late 2017 in order to ensure a safe return of displaced civilians. According to the Damascus government, more than 500,000 civilians have returned to their homes in the province, so far.
