The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has began deploying troops in the northeastern al-Hasakah countryside, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on November 14.
According to the state-run news agency, SAA units will be deployed between the town of al-Jawadiyah and the city of al-Malikiyah.
Last month, the Damascus government and the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reached an initial agreement, allowing Syrian troops to enter the country’s northeastern region.
Since then, the SAA has established positions in eastern Aleppo, Raqqa and northern al-Hasakah. The Russian Military Police also established several posts in these regions.
The SAA’s mission is to support the SDF, that’s facing a Turkish attack, and secure the country’s border with Turkey. The recent Russian-Turkish agreement on northeast Syria welcomes the army’s role in securing the border.
