Syrian Army Enters Qalaat Al-Madiq, Secures Its Surroundings (Map)

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has imposed control of the strategic town of Qalaat al-Madiq in the northwestern Hama countryside, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) and several other sources reported on May 9.

According to pro-government activists, the SAA entered the town under an agreement with local leaders there, who were apparently fed up with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies. After securing the town, the army advanced in its vicinity and captured several towns, including al-Tuwayni in the west and Kirkat in the north.

Qalat al-Madiq, which has some of the highest positions in northwestern Hama, is considered the main entrance for the entire region, commonly known as the al-Ghab Plains.

Earlier this year, HTS attacked the Turkish-backed Ahrar al-Sham Movement in Qalat al-Madiq. The terrorist group killed and injured many people in the attack and expelled some of the local fighters. This may have played a role in the locals’ decisions to reconcile with the Damascus government.

Now with Qalaat al-Madiq under its control, the SAA will likely develop its operation to capture the entire al-Ghab Plains. Such an advance could secure the Russian Hmeimim airbase on the Syrian coast and civilian areas in northern Hama, which are usually shelled from al-Ghab.

in less than 24 hours, we’ll be hearing news of a massive rebel counteroffensive that’ll recapture qalaat al madiq and kafr nubedeh. saa are a bunch of rookie soldiers who cant hold any ground or reinforce their defensive positions. the SDF would have been at the gates of Idlib by now lol

Barba_Papa

Excellent comedy gold on your behalf. I’m sure you said the exact same things about the battle in Tripoli, East Ghouta, Daraa, Deir Ezzor, Palmyra, and East Aleppo. How did those predictions work out? Now if you excuse me I leave it up to your Nose to further insult you.

jorge

Battle in Tripoli?

goingbrokes

He said in “less than 24 hours” – we’ll see very soon!

Promitheas Apollonious

tell me the truth. You have a lot of wet dreams dont you.

gustavo

fake news my friend. I t looks like that your job is to misinform the people.

Promitheas Apollonious

more like pin pointing the morons, who believe what he says for the rest of us, will be more accurate.

Tudor Miron

See you within 24 hours.

grumpy_carpenter

Brilliant analysis.

So you say the rebels will leave their fortified positions and go on the offensive against an SAA force that has armour, satellite and signals intelligence provided by the Russians, outguns them in artillery and has air support. And that this will happen in 24 hours.

Between me and you this would be the wet dream of every SAA commander who wants to get home to his wife and kids.

Here’s my prediction. The “rebels” fight a rear guard action from defended positions while their main force retreats to line of prepared defences in the rear and the ‘white hats’ are called in to stage a chemical attack to give the USA / Israel a reason to launch a strike using standoff weapons.

Mike

Again fuck off solomon kupec.

Jacob "Wraith" Wohl

so offended! *not* think of better insults and comebacks antisemitic arab

goingbrokes

24 hours is up mate! You lost! You were wrong!

Jacob "Wraith" Wohl

Ok I admit my prediction was wrong… big deal point is SAA is most likely going to lose more ground in future rebel counter offensives because they can’t hold an acre without air support

goingbrokes

Thank you for admitting you were wrong, very decent of you. But now you make another prediction – I’m not sure what you’re saying but SAA has air support. In any case, get a few predictions right and I might take it seriously. Up to now your record is fairly poor.

Anrma

bitch, you still alive? 24 hours lol you failed as usual. you are a failure.

Concrete Mike

hah where your blackwater alnusra buddies now.

I would think that the long suffering citizens of Idlib are now praying to be liberated from the Turkish and ‘Al Nusra’ warlord gangs who prey on the civilian assets for protection money.

ColinNZ

SAA Facebook are saying many of the civilians are coordinating with SAA forces to assist in the multiple towns & villages liberated so far … I believe we will see more of this and as a result the speed of SAA advance will be shocking … especially for the terrorists. The initial objectives seem to be progressing well.

FlorianGeyer

Yes indeed.

Fear has always been a fragile form of control in all aspects of our lives on this earth.

Fear’s greatest weakness is the fact that noone is happy to exist in fear and will grasp the opportunity to remove, or help to remove, their tormentors.

Havarnews reports an exodus of 5o ooo “families” towards Afrin. I assume they mean families of the mercenaries.

gold37

This reminds me of a few SAA offensives, they get behind the enemy lines then attack from the rear, while opening other fronts. By the time an effective counter-attack is launched, its too late. Also, would be interesting to see if any local reconciliations are made and if the Al-Bab/Afrin fronts would also be active, unlikely at the moment as the Turks are dealing with local elections issues.

gustavo

I hope this offensive not be just local (to make Russia basis safer) and continue until get rid of terrorists and Turkish the whole Idlib area, and SAA can have total control of Turkey-Syria border.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

very good work SAA keep going!!!
