The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) established on November 28 several new positions on the strategic M4 highway, which links al-Hasakah, Raqqa and Aleppo.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the new positions were established in the villages of al-Kuzaliah, Umm al-Kahir and Tell al-Labn to the west of the key town of Tell Tamr in the northern al-Hasakah countryside.

Dozens of Syrian service members, armored bulldozers, trucks and battle tanks were deployed in the newly-established positions.

Earlier this month, the army established a military post near the village of Alia al-Hussien, west of Tell Tamr, to improve connection between its troops in al-Hasakah and Raqqa.
The M4 highway was blocked last week as a result of Turkish-led attack on the town of Ain Issa in northern Raqqa. The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) managed to repel the attack with direct support from the SAA.
Last October, the SDF and the Damascus government reached an agreement allowing the deployment of Syrian troops in the northeastern region. U.S. forces had withdrawn from large parts of the area, paving the way for a Turkish attack on their supposed Kurdish allies.
