The Syria Arab Army (SAA) expanded its operation in southeastern Idlib in the afternoon of December 21, capturing two new towns in the region.
According to pro-government sources, army units captured the towns of Harran and Sarja Gharbuya from al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies. Several airstrikes had destroyed the terrorist groups’ positions inside the two towns.
Earlier today, the SAA captured the towns of Umm Tinah, al-Ruffaha, al-Sayyadi, Mudayisat and the key hilltop of Tell Damm. The army also repelled a counter-attack by HTS and its allies, neutralizing most of the attacking force.
The Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) are supporting to the ongoing SAA attack in southeast Idlib with dozens of airstrikes.
SAA units will likely advance further in the upcoming hours. In the last two days, the army overrun key militant defense lines and captured many towns in night attacks.
