On January 6, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) uncovered several weapons caches in the towns of Talbiseh and Taldou in the northern Homs countryside, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

“After an investigation and a search operation in the northern Homs countryside, in cooperation with the honorable locals, large quantities of weapons and ammunition were found,” an officer in the SAA told the SANA.

The weapons caches included four RPG-18 anti-tank rocket-propelled grenades, one RPG-22 anti-tank rocket-propelled grenades, one RPO-A thermobaric rocket launcher, one RShG-2 thermobaric rocket launcher, several machine guns and ammunition of different calibers and satellite communication systems.

This was not the first time the SAA had uncovered weapons caches in the northern Homs countryside. Two days ago, the army found four US-made TOW anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) and a bunch of other weapons during a similar search operation in the region.

The Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the northern Homs countryside surrendered last April and its fighters joined the reconciliation process. A number of radical militants preferred to withdraw to the opposition-held part of northern Syria, where most of them joined Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the former branch of al-Qaeda in Syria.

Pentagon chief of staff resigns The Department of Defense’s chief of staff Rear Adm. Kevin Sweeney has resigned, according to a statement. Sweeney said in a brief statement that he planned to return to the private sector, giving no reason for his departure. His exit comes just days after Secretary of Defense James Mattis, for whom Sweeney previously served, left the agency after announcing his resignation earlier in the month. “After two years in the Pentagon, I’ve decided the time is right to return to the private sector. It has been an honor to serve again alongside the men and women of the Department of Defense,” Sweeney said in his announcement. His resignation also followed that of another top Mattis ally, Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White, who announced her resignation at the end of December. “I appreciate the opportunity afforded to me by this administration to serve alongside Secretary Mattis, our Service members and all the civilians who support them. It has been my honor and privilege,” White wrote on Twitter last month. “Stay safe and God bless.” Mattis’s resignation was thought to be tied to the surprise announcement from President Trump regarding the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria, where coalition forces continue to battle elements of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) on the ground. Trump’s withdrawal of U.S. forces from Syria was also credited at the time with pushing the resignation of Brett McGurk, the president’s top envoy to anti-ISIS coalition forces in the region. Mattis’s former deputy, Patrick Shanahan, began serving as acting Defense secretary at the beginning of January.

The UK Daily Telegraph today reported that in addition to the 2 British ‘Special Forces’ that were severely wounded last week in Syria, that there were a further 5 British ‘Special Forces’ who were wounded and one Kurd was killed.

I wonder if questions will be raised in Parliament , as to why British troops wre fighting in Syria without Parliamentary approval and a UN resolution to do so ?

These men have essentially been injured whilst operating in Syria illegally. No Campaign Medals for them then :)
