Syrian Army Foils Another Infiltration Attempt To Its Positions In Northern Hama

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) foiled an infiltration attempt by militants south of the opposition-held town of Murak in the northern Hama countryside, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on October 4. According to the state-run news agency, the militants were planning to attack several positions of the SAA in the region.

In details, a unit of the SAA detected and engaged the infiltrators south of Murak. As a result of the clashes, many militants were injured and their weapons were destroyed, which forced them to withdraw back to their positions.

The SAA foiled three similar infiltration attempts in the northern Hama countryside in late September. Back then, Syrian pro-government activists warned that such hostile acts may threaten the Russian-Turkish deconfliction agreement because northern Hama is supposedly a part of the demilitarized zone around the governorate of Idlib.

Currently, thousands of militants from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Horas al-Din, the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) and Jaysh al-Izza are stationed in northern and northwestern Hama, according to the SANA. Most of these militants are expected to withdraw from the region by October 15.
