The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) foiled an attack by terrorist groups, shot down their drones and destroyed their vehicles in different directions around the Greater Idlib region, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on August 10.
In a statement, the ministry said that the SAA struck a gathering of terrorists who were preparing to launch an attack near the towns of Kafr Amma and Tadel in the western Aleppo countryside, killing and wounding many of them.
The SAA also shot down five suicide drones which were launched by terrorists over the countryside of Idlib, the ministry added.
In addition, the ministry said that the SAA struck several vehicles belonging to terrorists in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
The ministry usually uses the term “terrorist groups” to refer to al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies who control the Greater Idlib region, which includes large parts from the countryside of Aleppo, Idlib, Hamas and Lattakia.
Photos released by the ministry showed what appears to be the dead bodies of four slain terrorsits as well as the werkcage of multiple suicide drones.

HTS and its allies escalated their attacks in recent weeks amid renewed efforts to renormalize relations between Turkey, who maintains a large force in Greater Idlib, and the Damascus government. These efforts are reportedly being led by Russia.
This escalation, which jeopardize a ceasefire brokered by Russia and Turkey more than four years ago, appear to be an attempt to sabotage Syrian-Turkish talks.
