On October 28, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Tiger Forces advanced in al-Umal area (workers 1 and workers 2) in the center of Deir Ezzor city and captured al-Rusafi and al-Eirfi mosques inside the district, according to pro-governemnt sources.

From its side, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq claimed that ISIS fighters repelled an attack of the SAA in al-Umal district. Amaq reported that ISIS fighters killed 35 Syrian soldiers, and destroyed two tanks, a BMP-1 vehicle, a bulldozer and another vehicle during the clashes in the district.

Meanwhile, in the southern Deir Ezzor countryside, the SAA and Hezbollah repelled an attack of ISIS on their positions east of the T-2 station, according to the Hezbollah media wing in Syria. Several ISIS vehicles were destroyed by SAA soldiers while they were repelling the attack.

Moreover, Iranian Unmanned Combat Arial Vehicles (UCAVs) destroyed several positions of ISIS west of al-Bukamal city on the Syrian-Iraqi border.

The SAA and Hezbollah will likely advance towards al-Bukamal city along the Syrian-Iraqi border near an area, which is now under the control of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU). The assistance of the PMU might allow the SAA and its allies to reach the city within days.

fuck yeah!! goo SAA!!!

Langaniso Mhlobo

If Russia wanted their could already airlifted SAA force’s to Albukamal to encircle the city.Russia knows USA spy drones are monitoring SAA movement.

Valery Grigoryev

Exactly. They did NOT do it to Omar fields, and then lost it as well as the other oilfields southeast from Omar. It was a great mistake…

Barba_Papa

Airlifted troops on the other hand are very vulnerable when not relieved by ground troops in time. I reckon the inability of the SAA to advance to the Omar oil fields in time was part of why they didn’t use an airlift.

Also how many troops can the Russians airlift? When they last did so it was at best a company sized force. If ISIS has thousands of troops around Bukamal such a tiny force would get slaughtered.

Langaniso Mhlobo

It is not the number which count but the resources which you have.We used to fight in battalion of 29,15 and 7 in a single group against thousands of terrorist but we used to subdue the enemy basis. Before we call in air support on a specific area we’re the strong resistance come from. L,V or South,South East,South west,East and West Formation is needed.North should be used to plant bombs prior to attak.

dutchnational

Very unlikely :

Saqr island could not be taken for a month and SAA lost several high officers there because of lack of resupply (no bridge)

SAA could not sustain the small bridgehead of Diban, north of Mayadin : no bridge.

gustavo

With aerospace Russian force any number of ISIS troops is irrelevant. Russia has the capability to destroy any number of ISIS, IF Russian would want to, but it is obvious that Russia does not want to do that, maybe because a previous USA-RUssia agreement in this matter.

Barba_Papa

It seems like a perfect logic circle of conspiracy thinking. The RuAF is all powerful and can destroy any ISIS force. Yet ISIS still manages to launch successful counter attacks. Like the one that saw Palmyra fall a 2nd time last year. Therefore its clear that the Russians don’t want to do that.

I pose a different solution. One that has been proven right again and again and again through history. Air power can accomplish a lot, but not everything. It’s not as effective at everything as its proponents keep saying. And as history has proven again and again and again, armies that are subject to constant air strikes can learn to adapt to them. The Germans did it in WWII, the Vietnamese with the French and Americans, the Serbs against NATO and ISIS does it now.

gustavo

Or previous unknown agreement between USA-Russia.

Valery Grigoryev

That was a plan of Syria division, anticipated one year ago by the ‘think tank’ of the Pentagon – Rand Corp., : https://www.globalresearch.ca/rand-corporations-plan-for-dicing-up-syria/5577009 As it can be seen, the current reality is not far from that plan, while a little bit more in favour of SAA. May be some Ru-US agreement exists, but it is being dynamically changed.

dutchnational

Airlifting can be very effective if one can reinforce a small bridgehead very rapidly, as in hours.

If one cannot, the military in that small bridgehead are doomed.

It seems that RuAF made the (likely correct) calculation that such reinforcements within hours were unlikely and did not go for an airlift.

Gabriel Hollows

Why are they taking so long in the city? Are they fighting US marines or something? Where are the Russian airstrikes?

Enkidu

ISIS is probably using human shields

The Citizens.

Xanatos

They had 4 years to dig in an urban area, and they have a network of tunnels – and the dreaded tunnel bombs – to their defense.

You can be sure activity underground, to counter enemy tunnels, is far more hectic than what is seen above ground.

Ace

Urban warfare is difficult and dangerous. If civilians are present this creates problems for the attacking troops. It’s more important to keep ISIS reinforcements out and proceed methodically.

gustavo

When human being invented the excuses, the stupidity of human being finished.

gustavo

Well, SAA is so slow that ISIS can sleep very well during the night.

Deo Cass

ISIS are surrounded on tbis axis. They should postpone this operation and concentrate on liberating the Albukamal border city and secure the crossing. If need be with a littke help from their PMU Iraqi friends.

Your wishes will be fulfilled in a week or so. Sit back and watch and chill out.

Langaniso Mhlobo

Very true let them keep Feir Ezzor under siege and concentrate on Albukamal.Leave less useful places.

Ace

It seems very doubtful that the Russians would ever “collude” with the US.

gustavo

There is not any colluding, there are agreements ! which obviuosly we do not know.

John

The SAA is doing things by the numbers; the most important things first. They are piece by piece dismantling IS and when that is done, Nusra and the SDF will be dealt with in their own forms. In my view, by demonstrating incredible discipline, by ignoring the US coalition propaganda and various other imaginary pressures, the SAA and Co. is demonstrating how serious it really is now. Imagine being on the other side of the coin ( Nursa, FSA, SDF ), watching this juggeraut moving ever closer to them. Just as it occurred in Iraq, all things in due time. It is chess, not a rap-battle.The illusion will vanish in a instant at some point. Words are cheap, easy and very dangerous. Actions are what counts, especially when done methodically. Go SAA and Co.!!!

dutchnational

Seems to me that so far it is SAA being scared of US/SDF, not the other way around.

Was it not a columm of SAA heading towards al Tanf that turned around when USAF dropped a few bombs ahead of the colum, as reported here last week by SF???

John

I didn´t know about that but, let´s just go with what you said. Not long ago the US was bombing, for effect, SAA components at will. Now they are bombing around them? Hmmmm, sounds like somebody doesn´t want to make a mistake these days.

One more thing, why not. Didn´t the SDF just turn over a gas or oil field to the Russians, that was across the river, just northeast of De city and under their control a week or two ago? That doesn´t sound like it is in keeping with the ´don´t dare cross the Euphrates or you will pay the price´ line of mouthiness they were spewing not long ago. But, ………. I will won´t chalk that one up to fear or any kind of propaganda surrounding that develpoment at present. I am just watching.

A whole lot is going to shake out, even more than has already gone down. At some point, as with the Qatari minister, the truth will be told. Stay frosty dutch. It´s just getting started. Have a great day man.

gustavo

Too slow, but advancing. That is good, but not even very goo.
