Syrian Army Further Outflanks Deir Hafer From Southern Direction, Gains Two Villages And Hill Top

FILE IMAGE

On March 17, the Syrian Army’s Tiger Forces and the National Defense Forces (NDF) continued their operation aimed at outflanking the ISIS-held city of Deir Hafer in the province of Aleppo.

The Tiger Forces and the NDF attacked ISIS units at the southern flank of Deir Hafer and liberated the villages of Khassaf and Zubayda and the nearby Khassaf Hill. Government forces also engaged ISIS terrorists in Ash Shuraymah but this village remained contested.

The goal of the advance in the area is to create a threat of encriclement of Deir Hafer and to push ISIS units to withdraw in the area. If ISIS units don’t withdraw, the army and the NDF will be able to storm Deir Hafer from four directions simultaneously. This will ease the battle for the city dramatically.

Attrition47

This is a war of attrition, small gains can have big significance.

Wahid Algiers

The day is over. Your idea?

Thegr8rambino

Russia needs to do as many airstrikes as it cam, mostly on the big heavy targets to soften em up and make life as easy as possible for SAA! GOOD PLAN!

Bill Wilson

ISIS is short on manpower and most likely short on ammunition, too. They can’t afford to defend outlying villages very long if at all so should be withdrawing from that area while they can as a few units stay behind to perform rearguard actions to delay the SAA’s advance.

Thegr8rambino

Don’t give them any ideas! Lol
