The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Hezbollah, backed up by Russian warplanes and Iranian unmanned combat aerial vehicles, are advancing towards the ISIS-held town of al-Bukamal in the province of Deir Ezzor.

Recently, the SAA and Hezbollah have liberated Shammas, Baktal and nearby points and deployed in about 53 km from the town. A Russian attack submarine also supported the avdance with cruise missile strikes. The missiles destroyed ISIS HQs and a weapons depot.

Al-Bukamal is located near the Iraqi border, on the highway between the Syrian city of Deir Ezzor and the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. Both the Syrian government and the US-led coalition see al-Bukamal as a key defense point that will allow to establish control over the strategic highway.

unfortunately in the last few weeks it is the Yankees who take the initiative

Russia needs to inform the US that it will be working it’s aircraft on and all around Al-Bukamal 24/7 until it’s capture and then do it.

You can call me Al

Yep, It has to happen sometime and this is the right time to do it.

Here’s what I dont understand. Assuming the SDF captures that small stretch of theDeZ/Baghdad Hwy, they would only control enough of the road to set up a checkpoint on each end of town. So maybe 20 miles of road tops? Couldn’t the SAA just build a detour road around that area once ISIS is gone?

Frane Frlan

My understanding is that the whole hwy is on the wrong side of the river to be captured by SDF. SDF is just trying to capture as much oil fields on east side of the river to bargain with that for the concession of 80% production of Syrian oil from the fields on far northeast. I do not see any strategic military point for US/SDF of going south from Raqqa along east bank of the river.

The SDF and their US pimps will demand a buffer zone and they will be crying about iranian militias using the border, Israel may be bombing etc …

John Mason

SDF gets in they way then the only option is to confront them, if the US decides to pull its’ usual stunt then confront them also, that region is too important to let the SDF take control.

Attrition47

It’s about time for another “accidental” US bomb attack on the Syrian army.
