The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies launched a ground operation against the remaining terrorists in the northern Lattakia countryside in the noon of May 8.
According to the Military Media, the army and its allies have captured several key positions between the highest point in the al-Zuiyqat mount and point 1154 near the strategic Kurd mount.
Multiple terrorist groups, including the al-Qaeda-affiliated Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP), Ajnad al-Kavkaz (AK) and Horas al-Din, are stationed in the opposition-held part of the northern Lattakia countryside. From there, these groups launch rockets at the Russian Hmeimim airbase on the Syrian coast.
Earlier, Russian warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes on the town of Kabani in northern Lattakia following a new rocket attack on the Hmeimim airbase.
The new operation will further complicate the situation for the terrorist groups in Idlib and its surroundings, which are failing to hold onto their positions in northern Hama and suffering from heavy loses.
