On January 3, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and pro-government forces launched a new combing operation in the southern Deir Ezzor countryside.
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the operation will cover a vast desert located between the towns of al-Mayadin and al-Bukamal. Government forces are searching for ISIS cells and their hideouts.
“More than 20 vehicles carrying weapons and personnel were sent to comb the desert,” the monitoring group’s report reads.
The operation was launched in response to a recent attack, which claimed the lives of two National Defense Forces fighters and injured six others.
The fighters were moving near the town of Sabikhan, which is located between al-Mayadin and al-Bukamal, when their vehicle was struck with an improvised explosive device. ISIS cells were most likely behind the attack.
Last year, ISIS terrorists managed to expand their influence outside the Homs desert in central Syria. The group’s cells are now, once again, operating in Hama, Aleppo, Raqqa and Deir Ezzor.
Earlier this week, the terrorists carried out one of their largest attacks so far. A bus carrying Syrian soldiers and civilians was ambushed on Homs-Deir Ezzor highway. At least 25 were killed.
The Russian Aerospace Forces support the SAA’s continues operations against ISIS in the central region. Newly-deployed attack helicopters are now providing army troops with close air support.

Over the last few months, ISIS killed more than 1100 of your SAA and Hezbollah fighters, while taking less than 600 losses. In the past few days, they have killed dozens of regime forces. I think ISIS will prove more than a match for the SAA for quite some time. It seems Russia does not fight on the ground. That’s why there is scarcely any Russian casualties in all the incidents.

This is all very well,but they need to cut off supply lines of the terrorists,they just can’t function without supplies in that environment,once those supply lines have been dealt with those rtas would have to come out of their nests and make a run for it back to Al Tanf and other places.
