In the morning of April 25, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a barrage of Grad rockets at militant positions in the town of Khan Shikuhn in the southern Idlib countryside.

The shelling came a day after an attack by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) on a position of the SAA in northwestern Hama. The terrorist group claimed that 10 Syrian service members were killed in the attack.

However, a military source told SouthFront that the attack, which was carried out by a single suicide bomber, was a failure. According to the source, the bomber was killed meters away from the position. No soldiers were injured or killed.

The shelling of Kahn Shikuhn was likely a response to the failed attack in northwestern Hama. The attack was a major violation of the Russian-Turkish demilitarized zone agreement, which was reached last September.

Officials from Russia, Turkey and Iran as well as representatives of the Damascus government and the opposition are currently holding a new round of talks in Kazakhstan’s capital Nur-Sultan [Previously known as Astana]. The situation in Idlib is reportedly among the top issues being discussed there.
