Syrian Army Launches Major Combing Operation Between Damascus, Deir Ezzor, Raqqa & Homs

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) have launched a large-scale combing operation in the deserts of Damascus, Deir Ezzor, Raqqa and Homs, Syrian pro-government sources revealed on February 15.

According to the activists, the operation, which began a few days ago, covers the three following regions:

  1. The region between the western Deir Ezzor countryside and the Bishri mount in the southern Raqqa countryside;
  2. The region between the historical city of Palmyra in the eastern Homs countryside and the Ghurab mount in the Damascus desert;
  3. The northeastern part of the Damascus desert that reaches the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Some observers believe that the SAA and its allies could develop the operation to include a fourth front, the ISIS-held pocket in the Homs desert. However, the army doesn’t seem to be ready for such attack now.

Over the last two days, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) carried out a series of airstrikes on ISIS positions in the Damascus desert. Clashes between the army and the terrorist group’s cells were also reported in the region.

The new combing operation is likely aimed at preventing ISIS cells from regathering in central Syria. If the SAA fails to achieve this goal, ISIS could launch new attacks on residential areas in the eastern Homs countryside and the northern al-Suwayda countryside.

It’s time to clear the desert from ISIS!

Ed

Really don’t think that is possible. Even when they do happen to clear an area, they just re-appear again, or appear in a new area! Even now, there are reports that Daesh have captured Khirbet Al-Husn,Al-Diyatha,Al-Kiraa,Magharat Al-Namlah,due to no presence of government Forces in East Suwaydaa Badiyah

Jens Holm

They only can sweep and lower some. Clear is a long time one. Infacts us at the sideline has heard nothing from there for some time as well.

Anti pollution project. Need to keep the desert areas free of trash. :)

Barba_Papa

Green policies are all the rage these days. ;-)

better late than never!!

Attrition47

A quick chevauchee to keep the US head-chopping, heart-eating, rapers and slavers on the run and then back to more important matters.

Jens Holm

A what ??

Chevauchée; the English did a lot of them in the 100 Years’ War.

Rob

For bigger jobs the smaller jobs should have to be completed first. The uninvited foreign forces are the brutal encroachers which don’t follow human rights laws and need to be kicked out of whole Syria.

χρηστος

a major problem there. hidding in the desert and launching surprise attacks

Gabriel Hollows

How are they able to survive and hide in the desert? Shouldn’t they have run out of supplies and ammunition a while ago? They don’t have any supply lines, they should be dead.

Jens Holm

They support a kisok in Sukna :)

goingbrokes

Yes, a clear sign that they are fed real time intel and that they are SF trained fighters using advanced tactics. Both US and israel working overtime to keep those pockets alive and murderous.

Jens Holm

You certain is gobe broke in out of time intel.

Smaug

I’m sure that if nothing else, the area is still pretty lawless and needs some sort of government in remote villages.

gustavo

Now that Syria has a divided territory, it is better to care what it has left. Russia will stop any SAA offensive on Idlib.
