On Sunday, government forces, led by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) Tiger Forces, captured the strategic Bir Ghabaghib and al-Shula villages on the al-Sukhnah-Deir Ezzor highway and deployed less than 15km away from Deir Ezzor city, according to pro-government sources.
Al-Shula was one of the last ISIS positions on the al-Sukhnah-Deir Ezzor highway.
If the liberation of al-Shula is confirmed, few remaining ISIS positions in the desert that can be easily overrun by the SAA.
The ISIS-linked news agency Amaq claimed that ISIS fighters destroyed a tank and a BMP-1 vehicle of the SAA with an ATGM near Haribshah village in the western Deir Ezzor countryside.
Moreover, Amaq claimed that ISIS fighters destroyed 2 BMP-1 vehicles and 2 guns of the SAA with rockets near Haribshah village.
Local sources from Ma’adan town in the northwestern Deir Ezzor countryside claimed that ISIS deployed units from “Jaish al-Khilfah”, “Assud al- Khilfah” and “Ashbal al- Khilfah” to the town.
ISIS might be planning to launch a counterattack on the SAA positions near the strategic Bishri mount northwest of Deir Ezzor.
If everything goes as planned for the SAA, the SAA might break ISIS siege on Deir Ezzor city within few days.

Awesome, I hope they dont lose the initiative when they reach Deir Ezzor, looks like a force might be swinging north towards Al Tibni and cut of that IS force in Maadan thats trying to encircle them.
If they reach Deir Ez Zor in time (even if ISIS manages to cut them off) the city will gain valuable forces which will clean the city center and strengthen their positions in general, Leading to a victorious 2nd puss by the SAA forces :)

GREAT JOB SAA! Al Shulah fell rather fast. ISIS trash must be in pretty bad shape in this area. Nonstop air strikes have probably turned their vehicles into burning wrecks. This makes me so happy! :)))
Yes.. but SAA must be very careful because of Ma’adan flank.. there are infos about rats reinforcements arrived today in Ma’adan… They will try counter offensive from that direction for sure…
Air and satellite recon are probably on high alert for ISIS movements out of the Maadan area. Hopefully the weather remains good (no sandstorms). Air assets will be kept on station no doubt. GO TIGERS :)
Tyas and Jireh airfields are in close proximity to Madaan, Suk 25 are ready to pounce on any significant ISIS gatherings.
Yes I would be tempted to send the main force north up towards Al-Tibni, they will want to celebrate and do the hand shake ceremony with the other top General in Deir Ezzor but not for to long I hope, the other option mat be tigers stay an assist taking the city but with other forces in the Hama pocket cleaning hopefully not far away I would be making use of the Tigers manouver ability to cut off Maadan in the North and isolate the large force there.
Russia aerospace forces have the responsibility of eliminate these terrorists. Russia can see an ear everything in Syra, and for sure, they can see any grouping of terrorists. For Russia aerospace forces there is not excuse.

Excellent way to start September, and the only way the ISIS rats concentrated around Maadan could make it to DeZ would be with US airlifts. The US terrorists have to resort to bombing bus convoys of surrendered rats to appear to be doing something besides killing civilians in Raqqa.
ISIS force around Madaan will be entrapped and cut off.

I have 2 questions: where did these armies withdraw from—to check accuracy, and is al-Baghdadi attempting to concentrate his forces? Wish I had a map.
They were being hit from 3 places and not good when your 3 flanks are under attack, they pushed along the road from as Sukhna all the way to Al Shoulah along the M20 and pushed North and west from the Bishri Triangle west of M20 which runs all the way to DE. They used classic pincer movements all the way.

SDF supporting site claims SAA reached DeZ base, not yet the civillian part. If correct, the siege is at least partially broken.
Now for the civillians.
The big question will be whether IS tries to keep its hold on the region or will withdraw to fight elsewhere.
Do not put attention to any SDF news because they are right now the new USA-puppets.
There’s a river along the main Palmyra DE highway. Which even if it’s dry, can be tough going for a mechanized force. North of the highway where the main advance has come to within 10 miles of DE. It’s flat desert with no built up area until you get right to the city limits. The invaders aren’t going to be able to stop a mechanized force of any substance for long with air and ground support on that terrain.
I’m sure that there are commando units in the city now locating and neutralizing anti armor weapons so that they can get heavy weapons into the city to support clear and hold operations. It’s nightfall in DE now. Motorized and mechanized units may be entering the city now under the cover of darkness. Motorized units in particular. Bikes and 4x4s.
Thardah Mountain also must be cleared of ISIS. The SAA airport would then be able to receive flights again and resume combat flights as well.
Is that a built up area with civilians, or can it be hammered without collateral damage?
Thardah Mountain is a purely military outpost on a High Point. There are no civilian villages there. Its the mountain that the US Coalition bombed ‘by accident last year and ISIS just happened to be ready to assault and take the fortified base at the top. It overlooks the SAA airfield of Deir Ezzor.
