Syrian Army Lifts ISIS Siege From Deir Ezzor After Its Units Reach 137th Brigade Base

FILE IMAGE

Units of the Strian Arab Army (SAA) Tiger Forces and their allies have officially met with the defenders of the Syrian city of Deir Ezzor in the 137th Brigade Base area in the western part of the city, the Hezbollah media wing in Syria reported few moments ago.

According to the reports, SAA units entered the 137th Brigade closing the gap in the corridor between government troops in Deir Ezzor city and in the rest of the province.

Government forces reached the city of Deir Ezzor last weekend. Since then, they have been struggling to establish a secured corridor to Deir Ezzor amid an intense fighting with ISIS.

If reports are confirmed, it will be a major blow to the terrorists in the area and will allow the SAA to focus on taking a full control over the Sukhna-Deir Ezzor highway and liberating the entire city.

BBC hurriedly backing away from their previous propaganda. Amazing.

heydad

That’s an understatement. They actually had the audacity to claim that the civilians survived by UN air drops. They haven’t done shit for Syrians except embolden terrorist and make this conflict last so long. Just really is unbelievable.

Bob

Yep – had exact same thought reading it.

Graeme Rymill

Think again…. the airdrops are significant factors in keeping Deir Ezzor civilians fed and have the support of the Syrian Red Crescent organization. See my reply to heydad above.

ruca

“air drops of aid by the UN.”

I was also immediately skeptical.

Graeme Rymill

The Syrian Red Crescent confirms that these drops have been occurring:

“The Syrian Arab Red Crescent in cooperation with the [UN] World Food Program managed to deliver 62 tons of humanitarian relief aid to Harabesh neighborhood in Deir Ezzour city on Wednesday, April19, 2017. The relief aid was delivered via three air drops and contained cooking oil, sugar, rice, lentils, salt, and bulgur to match the needs of 1500 families there.”

The actual statement made by the BBC is “They have depended on military relief flights and air drops of aid by the UN.” That is a fair summary. It acknowledges both the Syrian Air Force and the United Nations’ efforts on behalf of the civilians of Deir Ezzor.

Here is a section from a June 2017 report on the UN’s World Food Programme airdrop activities over Deir Ezzor:

By early June 2017, WFP had conducted 257 airdrop rotations, delivering approximately 5,000 mt of WFP mixed food commodities and supplies on behalf of other humanitarian actors. This includes food assistance sufficient to provide six monthly rounds of food assistance for all 93,500 people in need in Deir Ezzor city. These people receive a food basket of 43 kg, which includes rice, bulgur, lentils, sugar, salt and vegetable oil. The food basket has been slightly modified compared to the food basket distributed via regular deliveries in order to be able to withstand high altitude airdrops.

Recognizing the importance of bread in the Syrian diet, in September 2016, WFP also started to drop yeast and salt to be used by local bakeries in order to produce bread. Furthermore, about 150 mt of humanitarian supplies on behalf of other humanitarian actors, including UNICEF and WHO, have been airdropped since June 2016; these include High Energy Biscuits, medical supplies, and a wide range of non-food items.

Despite all security and logistics challenges on the ground, the airdrop operation continues to be a success. Accuracy of the airdrops is now almost 100 percent and damages per month are below 10 percent. Since December 2016, not a single airdrop landed outside the designated drop zone.

BBC only writes like this because it’s SAA against ISIS. If it was SAA against Al-Qaeda then it would have been a humanitarian disaster in their eyes.

Great news for people of syria…All the best

Dejan

This was so fast, i remeber times when i was so scared that DZ would fall to ISIS but brave SAA soldiers resisted.

Jan Tjarks

Indeed, excellent news.

All the best for the Syrian people, hopefully this will lead to the destruction of all Daesh presence in Syria sooner than later now.

And don’t forget to bridge the Euphrates river, the moment you have the resources and power to do so. =)

Praba Karan

i want to ask a question for knowledge sake which side the druze community is sided? Are they pro government?

roger temple

All Syrians are pro the all-party government of national unity elected during 2015. Some are not enamoured of Assad as President, but they all love their country, and know what has been done to it – except a few fools, of course.
