AlMasdarNews reports: Nearly two weeks after launching a wide-scale military operation to recapture Maydaa, the Syrian Army is now clashing with Islamic insurgents inside the relatively small but strategic village located deep in the rebel bastion of Eastern Ghouta.
The Army’ elite Republican Guard troops – now sophisticated veterans with urban warfare – have imposed full control of the eastern and southern parts of the village.
“The Islamic fighters of Jaysh al-Islam are now squeezed in the western part after ousted from the south western farms”, a field commander said.
The source admitted that a T-72 tank has been seriously damaged.
“Thankfully, the crew remained unharmed”, he added. The Saudi-backed faction has lost at least 70 fighters during the 2-week offensive.
The source also predicted the village to be under the Army’s full control within the next few days with accurate airstrikes play a decisive role in the attack.
