On June 18, the Syrian Army and security forces purged ISIS cells in the settlements of Bi’r Tayyārah and Bi’r Um Salabikh in the province of Deir Ezzor, according to pro-government sources.
The both settlements are located south of the vilalge of Humaymah, near the border with Iraq.
On June 17, government troops secured the areas of Kabt Mount, Tell Shadid, Abar Warak and Bir Atshan, which had been also in the hands of of ISIS cells.
ISIS units still actively operate in the border area, thus, forcing the Syrian government to contribute more and more efforts to combat them.

The SAA are pushing Isis northwards from Homs and I think they won’t stop until they hit the Euphrates. This is a repeat of what happened last year, I think they started in sep or oct and finished by end of dec. Last year the Russian kept accusing the US of allowing Isis to use the 55km exclusion zone around the base at Al-Tanf to resupply from and hide in. The SAA more or less blockaded the base and the Russians used airpower to quickly clean up the surrounding areas. The SAA came in and mopped up and kept repeating until they hit the Iraqi border. I think we’ll see the same thing happen now. The Iraqi border wasn’t secure last year but it is now so I don’t see why they shouldn’t be able to do it in even less time this year. Unless Daraa changes things that is. Or the new US airstrike near Abu Kamal.

Gaining terrain also means that troops have to remain there to ensure the place. That also means that the number of their left to go further becomes smaller.. It’s not easy for the SAA and new recruits are hard to find and takes time to drill them. This war will take other 4-5 years from now. And the factor TIME plays against ASSAD, the TURKS and the NATO push deeper and deeper their nose into Syria.
I give it 3 months max. SAA probably left this pocket alone so ISIS from S Damascus had somewhere to go. Daesh #1 problem is supplies now.

To permanently eradicate Isis from this area, the SAA and Russia have to do the same thing they did last year. Another ring of steel around the US base at Al-Tanf is needed, it worked last year so it’ll work again. No more re-supply, no escape routes, no safe havens, no more Isis. I think it only took 3 or 4 months for the Russians to declare this area Isis free last year, but back then the Iraqi’s didn’t have a secure border, but they do now, so it should be even easier this time around. This new airstrike on the Iraqi’s and the Syrians near Abu Kamal is a bit of a worry though, it could mean things are about to change here completely.
