The Syrian Armed Forces have carried out a successfull counter-attack against jihadists in northern Hama, recapturing the towns of Kawkab and Abdin and the strategic hill south of Muardes.
At the same time, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies failed to seize the loyalist stronghold of Qamhana. The Qamhana is an important government defense site. Over 1,000 local fighters serving in the Tiger Forces are reportedly deployed in the area.
If HTS-led forces are not able to capture this strategic village located less than 2 km from Hama, their chances to reach the provincial capital will be minimal.
“Moderate rebels” from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) provide support to al-Qaeda-linked HTS targeting government militar equipment with US-supllied anti-tank missiles. These US-supplied weapons have played an important role sincce the start of the militant advance in the province.
The FSA’s Jaish Al-Izza targeted a T-72 tank on Mahardeh road with a TOW missile:
While another TOW missile targeted an 37mm artillery vehicle belonging to the Syrian Army:
Meanwhile, Russian warplanes targeted militant ammunition depots and command centers in the areas of Idlib, Jisr al-Shughour and Jabal al-Zawiyah. It is expected that the number of Russian and Syrian airstrikes will increase ahead of the Syrian army counter-attack.
At last. Hope this “key town” is really a key town, not a back road checkpoint blown out of proportion.

Just because you do not like the idea, it does not mean that it will not happen. There will be an vassal (to USA and Israel) Kudish state in north east Syria, as the Syrian government and its SAA has proven utterly incapable to re capture and hold territory much closer to the Damascus and Homs, let alone re capture territory that are largely Sunni, hostile areas in the east of the country. US and the Kurds just use this opportunity that presents to themselves.

last time te saa was not able to take back all of lost terrritories. we wil see, what will happen. the strategy is wrong. instead of direct push they had to attak at flanks and close all of jihadist like the russian made with paulus. here and now the jihadists waste the ammo and fuel for attacks, and there are weak supply lines. if the saa would close them the jihadists would be without ammo and fuel within some days.
This is not Stalingrad. The priority is to protect Hama and the airbase. These are battalion size units, not Divisions. Though the east shoulder at Mann is holding up well. Jihadist supply road can be cut off.

the russians are there 1,5 yers. sorry, but the results are lean. only 1 example. in aleppo city was concentrated large amount of soldiers. and for last 3 munt 1 deir hafer is anemic result. they should have alredy khanassar with tabqa or anadan height and close to idlib. 3 months lost.

Ideally yes if they got enough manpower and tanks in the region, they can concentrate and do artillery preparation, rocket attacks and air strikes, then blitz toward Murak and Kafr Zayta. That will crush the backbone of Idlib terrorist and if those two towns are captured in blitz 24 hour operation then its all over. Cuting off 10K of they life force is going to be fatal for them. However that is not possible with the SAA capabilities and its unrealistic. You have to play with the cards you have.

This just shows up the same problem , time and again. As much as the Syrian Army or what’s left of it is fighting hard , they simply do not have manpower to hold and police territory. The Iranians and Russians need to start recruiting at least 30000 contractors to fill the gaps. Hezbollah and the Iraqi Shias will provide the rest of the shortfall. That’s if Israel does not start an incursion into Lebanon to shore up the Wahabbis in Syria.
