On November 7, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) reinforced its newly-established positions in northeastern al-Hasakah by deploying additional troops and heavy weapons, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

“Fresh reinforcements of the Syrian Arab Army arrived in the village of Bab al-Khair in the northeastern al-Hasakah countryside in the framework of the deployment on the Syrian-Turkish border,” the state-run agency’s reporter said.

The SANA released photos of the reinforcements, which included dozens of service members and several upgraded T-55AMV battle tanks.

The SAA entered the northeastern region last month following an initial military agreement between the Damascus government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The agreement is aimed at countering the Turkish attack on the region.

So far, the army has deployed units in eastern Aleppo, northern Raqqa and northern al-Hasakah. However, it is yet to enter Deir Ezzor or southern al-Hasakah, where U.S. forces are maintaining a presence to guard key oil fields.
