The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) have repelled a counter-attack of the ISIS units trapped in the cemetery area in the city of Deir Ezzor. According to local sources, ISIS lost some 6 members in the failed counter-attack.
Earlier, the SAA and the NDF besieged ISIS terrorists there cutting off the only ISIS supply line with a 280-meters long trech.
However, the trench does not link the Deir Ezzor airport area and the government-held part of the city and does not allow government forces to restore a ground supply line between the airport and the city. The trench itself remains vulnerable for ISIS attacks from both directions. Now, ISIS is preparing for fresh attempts to push government troops from this position.
Daesh is desperate. SAA needs to deploy a cautious strategy in DeZ while they await the inevitable relief columns from the Euphrates and Sukhnah routes.
They are doing this to distract and put pressure on ISIS in the region , this is a good way to do it by showing them they can take and hold the position and harass ISIS supply lines.
100,000 civilians in DeZ city need that siege broken.
