The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) repelled an attack by ISIS cells on one of its positions in the northwestern part of the area of al-Safa, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on October 6. According to the state-run news agency, SAA soldiers killed several snipers and suicide bombers of the terrorist group during the clashes.

From its side, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq claimed that ISIS elements killed seven soldiers of the SAA during the attack. Furthermore, two other soldiers were reportedly killed in the same area by the terrorist group snipers prior to the attack.

The SAA advanced in the northwestern part of al-Safa and imposed control of Qa’a al-Banat two days ago. Later, dozens of former Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters were deployed in northern al-Suwayda in order to support the ongoing military operation in al-Safa.

The operation was launched by the SAA and its allies in early August in order to neutralize ISIS cells, which are hiding between the governroate of al-Suwayda and the Damascus desert. The army is also working to free around 30 civilian hostages, who were abducted by the terrorist group on July 25.
