The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defense Forces (NDF) have repelled a large ISIS attack on their positions in the Panorama, Hawaiqah and Rashidiya areas in Deir Ezzor city. ISIS fighters tried to exploit a sandstorm that hit Deir Ezzor city to attack the SAA.
Syrian and Russian Air Force warplanes targeted ISIS positions in the Syriatel Hill, the Panorama, the Al-Makabir, Al-Omal district, the Old Airport, Al-Hweika, Al-Rashidiya and the vicinity of the military airport.
According to local sources, three ISIS ammo depots exploded in Al-Khasarat district in Deir Ezzor, killing and injuring a number of ISIS fighters.
US-led coalition warplanes carried out 12 air strikes on ISIS positions in the Syrian town of Al-Bukamal. It is believed that the US may be planning to land US Special Operations Forces and forces of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the countryside of Deir Ezzor.
The possibility will grow as the SAA approaches the road to the Deir Ezzor city besieged by ISIS.
May GOD cause every soldier, fighter and pilot who are illegally operating in Syria to be placed on a bed of sickness/affliction and cause the affliction to daily increase until they leave Syria. Agree, The best way to support this operation would be from the large Al Assad airbase in Anbar province. Of course this is in the wrong country and Iraqi govt would never allow it, plus I doubt they allow FSA trash on their territory. So the plan is a non starter.
Russia could airlift Their special forces, SAA and Shia Militias into T2 Airport and have an operations base for South Deir Ezzor province . Helicopters make the best hunters on open Barrens like Deir Ezzor province. If US occupies T2 Airport and puts FSA in there…..then pulls another BS 50 klm exclusion zone It will be big trouble for Syria and allies.
It’s always a risk to cut out something like this in war,…yet US did this with firebases In Vietnam which gave area artillery coverage. Russia is slowly winning what it can in Syria…..it could risk and trust it’s military technology to secure key logistic sites before the US does.

Finding info on Syria’s military Helicopter availability has been difficult. Russian military Helicopter availability to. I believe both have the special forces capable of taking T2 …. IMO….the low numeric of these air mobile forces is directly related to why ISUS and FSA move and consolidate with ease while SAA and Shia Militias are always Walking right into it like some Civil War movie with guys going up a hill vs Cannon with triple cannister.
Have watched for years to see if doctrine would change. … The few videos online with follow up articles such as Southfront show that Air mobile operations are the way to kick the door in. Stubborn resistance gets Airstrike or Kalibre.
Last fall , just before the first C/H , south west of Aleppo , Irans , Quds Force had taken “Khan Tuman” (mountain) , and were not backed up by the SAA , because of the truce . Lost that corps as they could not extract them . High value troops should have their own air support , thought at least the Iranians would learn from that . Also surprised the Russian’s are not using this war as an opportunity to experiment on helicopter improvements , kevlar body protection , etc. The air power advantage is under utilized to say the least .

Just today Iranian security forces had destroyed a terrorist hideout in South Eastern Iran (1 car bomb 600 kg of explosives, 5 separate bombs, another 700 kg of explosives, 10,000 rounds of ammunition and various amount of weapons).
The war in Syria will likely escalate from here on out and the next enemy for the Iran/Syria/Russia alliance is the Kurds back by the Saudis/Israel/USA. Although easier said than done. It does sound like a good plan. Mounting an large air borne drop of paratroopers and equipment behind enemy lines landing right into bases around Deir Ezzor would be a good idea.
I would like to see a large mechanized unit be formed and make a B line towards Deir Ezzor. Pushing through everything in it’s path. And when it gets to Deir Ezzor, its over just kill everything that isn’t a friendly and call it a day.
The large areas retaken in recent weeks shows the numbers of ISUS or FSA is low. This indicates the risk in forward operations would manageable with logistic support On the ready. Does Syria have a helicopter that can lift a small dozer to a site to build burms And clear areas ? ISUS Piled dirt and holders on Tarmacks taken from Syria. Syria’s plugging along….yet it’s like Dollar Store is their military supply.
Would be an audacious move from US, and they could pull it off in the beginning. But then what? US taking T2 would be a virtual open admission that they are in cahoots with ISUS because supplies could only come from IS held territory. We can discount airlifts, which would only work with air superiority and big political will, neither of which exist. And US SOFs are not about to start sacrificing for hare-brained schemes where they pick up the life-and-limb tab. If FSA tries to occupy it first it will turn into a suicide mission. Syrians and the PMU will probably drive there quite soon so an airborne operation is hardly necessary. I think it will be business as usual.

Russian doctrine of air envelopment involves airborne troops, I am sure they can air drop a couple of battalions in the T2 area with heavy equipment if they felt it was necessary.
