The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies reportedly retreated from the key village of Shulah on the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor highway amid an intense fighting with ISIS terrorists.
Earlier today, ISIS launched an attack against government troops in Shulah and pushed the military to close the highway. ISIS also claimed that it captured 2 “Russian soldiers” in the advance.
Following the SAA retreat, multiple airstrikes were reported in the Shulah area and government forces started re-groupping for a counter-attack.

If SAA is forced to retreat out of a key city resulting in a cutting of a key supply route, then this is not about tactics but a plain retreat, however temporary.
It shows SAA is not as much in control as was thought and will force SAA to deploy more forces to guard its flanks and supply routes.
It must be hoped that the route is cleared as soon as possible. I am not a fan of the SAA, but IS is worse.

The SAA have currently kept their pushes quiet and still increase security in the region of Deir Ezzour and still are able to maintain this style of fighting, as ISIS needs to be drawn in and committed so the real pushes can advance.
The route will be cleared along with massive gains and heavy equipment and manpower losses for ISIS.

You don’t seem to understand that in any war there will always be reverses buddy, especially in the case of the SAA, which is stretched out over huge expanses of new reacquired Syrian territory.. It’s a normal and expected thing. Just as the Ardennes offensive(Battle of the Bulge) in WW2 seemed to be a reverse for the allies, it actually shortened the war and brought it to a fast conclusion. Hitler shot his wad, but then had little strength left for defense of Germany proper..

You under estimate the SAA and Russia as this is a twofold plan to draw their armor into the open and decimate it piecemeal, weaken their fronts. They will end up losing all that ground as they expend it on being drawn in to battles they can’t escape from, this is how they fight.
