Syrian Army Seizes Most of Turdah Mountain from ISIS despite US Air Strikes against Government Forces

Support SouthFront

The Syrian army and the National Defense Forces, supported by the Russian Aerospace Forces, have seized the most of Turdah mountain south of the strategic city of Deir Ezzor from the ISIS terrorist group.

The pro-government forces were able to do this depiste ‘accidental’ air strikes of the US-led coalition air power against the Syrian army in the area. The US-led air power’s actions resulted in singificant causalties among the Syrian army: 62 soldiers were killed and about 100 injured. The Pentagon denied that the air strikes were amied on the Syrian army. However, some experts suggest that this was not be a common mistake.

We recall, according to pro-government sources, some 1000 soldiers of the Syrian Republican Guard (an elite formation of the Syrian army) had arrived Deir Ezzor in order to support operations against ISIS in the area prior to the US-led air strikes.

Does Russia have portable air defence technology (MPADs)? If so, why on earth does the Syrian army not have these defensive weapons? The US hands out MPADs to its mercenary/terrorist friends like they’re Halloween candy.

John Whitehot

you ppl should really stop reasoning this way. Units on the ground were unaware of being targeted until the bombs fell, and at that point Russia noticed the US that they were hitting the SAA, so they stopped. Idk how so many folks talking abt “defensive sams” and the SAA or Russia did not do anything to stop the US planes – those were supposed to bomb ISIS, nobody expected they failed to identify their targets.

Random guy

If they don’t know how to target, they shouldn’t be there at all. What will be next, children’s hospital?

Jens Holm

Hitting hospitals would be being loyal to Assad. Dont think so.

janarddan

Yes after all it was Assad who bombed MSF hospital in Kunduz, Afghan

medicis

another nice piece of BS from the friends of Zion. Your fable has long been debunked.

janarddan

Hope the word s-a-r-c-a-s-m has not disappeared from your dictionary

Jens Holm

Sorry for that hospital too and the many india soldiers killed in Kashmir.

Random guy

Are you claiming Coalition forces wanted to deliberately help ISIS by hitting SAA?

Boris Kazlov

Exactly, you finally got it, congratulations.

Random guy

I was interested to know if Jens Holm knows what he is implying. But since you commented, thanks, I guess?…

medicis

drivel. The USA, Inc., targets hospitals. The Russians do not. Never have. In spite of what the Zio Media in the USA, Inc. proclaims.

Tom Johnson

Well today the UN is reporting another hospital, ontop of the other 50. The UN is not a Media company fuqtard.

Boris Kazlov

Poor fucktard repeating cheap propaganda, same thing said about Saddam and Gaddafi ‘butchers of their own people’, and look at the brilliant results. It has never occurred to them that Assad wins elections by killing his own backers.

Tom Johnson

Hey, fuqtard it’s spelled fuqtard. OK fuqtard.

John Whitehot

you two are ruffians staying south of the southern lebanon border.

Rick0Shea

If nothing else, MPADs would be a great deterrence to those who would attack Syria’s ground forces from the air – if a few ‘examples’ were set (planes shot down) that would be even a greater deterrence. As it is now, Syrian soldiers are sitting ducks and it’s only going to get worse – the regime change operation is in full play and the ‘use foreign mercenaries (ISIS etc)’ idea is not getting the job done fast enough so now the US has to directly bring the weight of its military to bear.

Jens Holm

If You can say ISIS I can say unimployed Turks.

John Whitehot

no. Shooting down US planes is exactly what the US want, to have a reason to bomb Assad. Some ppl is under the false impression that ONE s-400 and and handful of fighters deployed by the RuAF can wage war on the US forces deployed in ME. There are too many hotheads around, and most of them never saw war, how it looks and feels. Russia is justly trying to de-escalate a possible generalized conflict and those who preach they do that out of fear are the most stupid product of human kind, if not zio paid scum. US people have absolutely no interest in going to war against Russia, because when the nukes fall, everybody fails. But somebdoy else maybe hopes to make the greatest christian powers annihilate each other and then become the only force on earth. To get back to the question, SAA has its organic counter air assets, at several operational level. Those assets have not been particularly affected by the civil war as there were no air war over SYria, so their capability is largely intact

Manuel Chrut

MPADS would not be deterrent because US aircraft can operate above their maximum altitude. They would need proper anti-air defence systems that no one will provide them in this kind of situation for political reasons (not even Russians, especially not Russians). Not to mention that a) USA has ways to suppress such anti-air defences and b) we’ve seen the expertise with which the Russian-provided tanks are being used (read ‘wasted’), I don’t see who in SAA would be able operate such advanced equipment effectively within any reasonable time.

Any of this would mostly just serve to escalate the situation and give US ways to intervene in the conflict more and more directly.

John Whitehot

“we have seen the expertise” what the fuck are you referring to? you’re just the same pathetic troll spewing bullshit, just bullshit without any kind of argument, let alone proof. You don’t have the slightest idea on how tanks are used be it in Syria or elsewhere but have to talk anyway – that’s the point you got at, bitter zionists and ignorant yanks having nothing more to say than bullshit. “us having the way to supress” – that remains to be seen, right until now the us has had ways with soviet era systems from the 60ies, and always in export configuration. No us plane has ever ventured into “supressing” newer (but not state-of-art) systems like the s-300, they have been staying away from those. And on the opposite, we’ve seen the israeli Patriot systems unable to bring down a drone, miserably failing all the launches, and then miserably failing the F-16 intercept too.

Manuel Chrut

I’m referring to the hundreds of SAA tanks destroyed by ATGMs because of improper use. If you want proofs, go find them yourself. I don’t have to prove anything to a moron who himself only spews insults.

John Whitehot

“hundreds” how many hundreds? I need no proof to ascertain that the motherfucking ragheads post up multiple vid for every atgm hit, that at least half of those show hits without the tank being destroyed, that in some cases the missile did not even hit the tank, but the ground around it. The fact that the trained monkeys (with all due respect to monkeys) go allah ahbar everytime the missile explodes does testify only one thing, that they need to produce vids to get money from the perverts in saudi arabia.

Manuel Chrut

Dozen, scores, hundreds .. I don’t know but over the years it’s bound to be a lot. Quick search yielded this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/syriancivilwar/comments/1m0b29/syrian_arab_army_tank_losses_since_march_534/ I don’t know how credible the figures are, but still, it’s 500+ tanks in about 6 months.

Hit/missed/destroyed, doesn’t matter, I was hinting at the fact that they are completely oblivious to being shot at, exposed in wrong places, with latches open etc., simply not being used properly.

I would imagine the requirements for using an advanced AA system are much more demanding than using a bunch of tanks. My point was that providing such systems would not have that much of an effect, even if we disregard the political reasons that speak against such move.

John Whitehot

Now, that’s a three years old link, and many things have changed. the discussion at the provided link is right in stating that a high attrition rate to tanks is due to their employment in urban areas, which in itself is due to the syrian army being “tank centered”. The reason was that the most likely enemies would had been mechanized forces like Israeli, Iraqi or Turkish, so it’s not a doctrinal error on the part of the Syrian side. Urban operations are hellish for standard mechanized armed formations, the russians themselves learned important lessons in Chechnya, but paying a high cost for them. It is to be said though, that to start with, the number of losses cannot be confirmed, and very very likely comes from rebel sources which need financing and hence inflate the numbers greatly. Secondly, Russia has helped the syrians to put back in service the repair plants for their tanks; this in itself seems to have reduced losses of mechanized equipment very effectively (no numbers, but as a personal estimate, I could surmise that at least 30% to 40% reduction in wrote-offs is very likely). Thirdly, it’s now known that Russian officers help the Syrians to plan their operations at most levels – those lessons learned in Chechnya are being applied in Syria; before Russian intervention Syria was lacking some critical elements to put those tactics in place, first of all air support and competent forward controllers.

Manuel Chrut

Whilst I agree with all this, you seem to be dragging the discussion off-topic so I would propose to leave it at that.

Jens Holm

I agree. US & Co are trying to hit everything which moves and can, bacause they are building up hitting everything they can for Mosul in and out.

Kurds has just lost many soldiers just north of Der El Zor and there has been heavy clashings inside and around it too.

Obvius to find targets but those were wrong ones. Much better for me SAA and ISIS kill each other. They started it, not the Kurds. Hit the right wrong ones next time. Those SAA and russians cant even keep ISIS away from Palmyra.

janarddan

Ok, soon Russians will also do the same everywhere. They are more efficient because in last one year ISIS expansion is reversed – Compare it with the previous one year of only US bombing when ISIS expansion accelerated

Jens Holm

Agree, but kurds are much better

Russians has taken in more very good airplanes. It would be nice ISIS was gone and next/next war could begin.

Heard a competent war rapporter telling, that this kind of civil war would take 10-15 Years.

Boris Kazlov

You mean ISIS shrinked because of Russia’s superior aircraft, wait a minute, your supervisor says that you should post that murican planes are better.

John Whitehot

and yours says that being a zio troll you should be more careful in not giving away your true identity

Boris Kazlov

Kurds good for Israel, then USA, because they don’t want a united Syria. Hence good for CIA trolls infesting this site.

John Whitehot

and kike volunteers like you

Tom Johnson

Jesus was Jewish, and that is ok with me. Do you hate Jesus?

John Whitehot

i don’t hate nobody. I disrespect people who are on a global quest to enslave mankind through the usage of money like a weapon of mass destruction, after having amassed incalculable amounts of it in the course of several centuries; after having lobbied politicians like Reagan and Tatcher into trasforming the capitalist system based on the production of goods and service into a financial system where “having enough money” is the only way to make more, but with the real value of it every day becoming detached from the real value of the economy. I’m sorry for that folks, but they have committed the same error that condemned all the ones who made it in the past – they started believing in a false “god”. Money, or technology are not god – and those who wield them will be buried by history. And on Jesus, he preached about a god that is actually good – that forgives. He’s never talked about a god that destroys cities or mass murders egyptian pursuit armies. And, he said that forgiveness should be at the basis of all human relations – not vengeance. That’s enough for me to considering him a christian, and not a jew by any chance. Also, he did not said anybody being “chosen” and others not, that every human being has its place in heavens. Very much christian, not at all jewish.

janarddan

So US airforce was aiding SAA in Deir ez zor ? Was that their mission? Kurds are certainly not there in Deir ez zor.

Jens Holm

Dont think they were aiding Assads. They were reducing ISIS and made a fatal error.

Boris Kazlov

They did not fail, they identified correctly, the intentions was to hit the SAA because Israel prefers ISIS to SAA, admittedly. They stopped bombing SAA, but why did they not continue bombing ISIS who took SAA’s positions? Answer that question, redneck, before going back to your Bible-thumping session.

John Whitehot

if the intentions was to hit the SAA then it was not declared. Either you ppl reason like 10yrs old, are mad or haven’t got the slightest idea on how diplomatic things work.

Tom Johnson

Russia can’t or couldn’t do anything, but make a phone call. Who cares anyway?-62 dead “moderate terrorsts”

VGA

There are very few MANPADs in terrorist hands, dude. That’s why there are only rare losses for those old syrian aircraft from the 60s and 70s despite their high rate of operations all these years.

They hand out ATGM weapons, not anti-air weapons, because the americans are afraid of losses to their own airplanes or terrorist attacks on commercial airliners.

Rick0Shea

Then there was Afghanistan when the US supplied MPADs to the Mujahideen – devastated Russian aircraft…

Russia has had to change it’s aircraft and strategy to adapt to the widespread threat of anti-aircraft weapons is what I’ve already read on the subject – Turks, Israel, US – all have ‘special forces’ on the ground in Syria – these are mercenary/terrorists just like ISIS in my opinion, all one and the same.

VGA

Afghanistan was a different conflict though. It’s true that they gave many hundreds of MANPADs to the mujahideen and the russians suffered many helicopter losses. Those MANPADs were useless some years later because their batteries need replacing, all that equipment stopped working more than a decade ago.

John Whitehot

lol the ususal myth from brainwashed yanks. “devastated”, ridiculous – any reasoning human being would take a look at the number of combat sorties of the soviet air assets in a-stan and the number of losses. Then do your mind a favor and go check the same number for US air forces in Vietnam. Do the math and see who got “devastated”.

Rick0Shea

I would be surprised if American made MPADs would work against US/Nato aircraft…I have the sneaking suspicion that problem has already been addressed in the design.

jj

The Syrian army has been allowing the U.S. to fly drones over it unmolested. Only since this brutal massacre, did it, just yesterday, fire “warning shots” at a U.S. drone. They are a-scared to shoot down U.S. drones. Annoying.

Tom Johnson

Fiction

hvaiallverden

This “incident” aka friendly fire just confirms what we have been writing for years, all the way back to Tunis/Egypt, whom supports what and for what reason. Its in the open daylight, and now they cant hide it any more the imperial banana republics merc armys and pattsys is becomed glearingly obvious.

There is indeed an escalation of events to new hights, and whom is willing or atempting to do what is uncertain, but never forget this Turks/kurds, there is an tomorrow, after the empire collapses there will be the same people in you back yard as before and into the future. WE all know whom is the enemy of man. Whom then will betray humanity to suckumb to the evil forces of the UssA, to be their slave, or well payed whore, will this next weeks be further revealed. In an sense we have and is going to get an showdown, and thats what the Yankeestans want, and when that day comes, Turks and Israelis, witch side will you be on. The EU is rotten to its core and have made them self irrelevant exept for been the Impisses erant boys, to feed the evil empire in the district of criminals, in the banana republic UssA. Whom have made war their last resort, an economy disintigrading, an population exrtemly merginalised, and an MSM whom have gone total bonkers.

I dont care to speculate any more, I want truths, and that will not come before we are in an position when its enievitable, and then we will know, I am not that bothered with speculations in this stage, when it will be revealed.

I hope that the Turks and the Kurd wakens to the reality of the present dangers. This is serious shit, Turks, threat wrong and it will have consequences for eons to come, and the Kurd have to be realistic, since they have only Their own nonsense as to justify what They do right now, nothing else.

May the lord have mercy upon our wretched souls, we will need every bit of it. Time to take a stand. Its that simple.

From the Quran, and never ever forget this, this is the law. And He whom refuses to see, will never be given the light and will forger and after walk in the dark. You reap, what you sew, it goes both ways, what, is all yours.

“When the sun shall be folded up;

and when the stars shall fall;

and when the mountains shall be made to pass away;

and when the camels ten months gone with young shall be neglected;

and when the seas shall boil; and when the souls shall be joined again to their bodies;

and when the girl who hath been buried alive shall be asked for what crime she was put to death;

and when the books shall be laid open;

and when the heavens shall be removed;

and when hell shall burn fiercely;

and when paradise shall be brought near:

every soul shall know what it hath wrought.”

you know, what really surprises me and makes me very pessimistic, is the reactions of generic folks in the west. Medias are becoming more and more biased and they need to publish lies which get every day bigger. But the general population – they don’t give a fuck. They are totally unaware of being dragged into an end of the world scenario, because of the greed of their masters. If we were in the 18th century, we ‘d have people marching in the streets protesting against governments, rallying behind intellectuals. And speaking abt intellectuals, how many have been produced by the US or EU in the last 50 years? It’s really disconforting.

hhabana

Most people just don’t give a shit. I work in various settings for my work and the folks I work with are oblivious to what is happening in the world. This applies to the educated one’s as well. But Facebook they are interested in! I guess I’m the odd ball since I cancelled my account several years ago. The only way they (speaking of the U.S.) is to begin the draft again which I totally support. Then, you will see how they begin to wake up when their kids come back in body bags.

Jens Holm

Well, something about it. But for my people its also because You have to worry for so many things. Europe, north here.

Dumbing down; co-opting of immoral intellectuals and suppression of honest ones; sheeple-ification of the populace; promotion of mindless consumerism and “making more” no matter WHAT as the ultimate goal in life; and above all ENFORCED DIVERSITY and the resulting social fragmentation and IDENTITY POLITICS – there are your answers.

Jens Holm

If You write a chapter more You will aspire for being the next Ayatollah or Pope and they will make You as 1/2 profet in the Khoran. Muhammed was the last profet, but half are ok now and then at the dirty pages of it.

Jean de Peyrelongue

It is obvious today that the peace agreement signed by Russia and the USA is a bad joke. As usual the US are not fulfilling their commitments. Russia signing this agreement was considered as a weakness by the hawks in the US and Israel. Even the Turks dare invading Syria. It means that Russia is not frightening anyone anymore. The Anglo-zionist Empire and its European dominions are considering Russia as an enemy and not as a Partner. KSA and Qatar are now working for Israel and as such are working against Russia, Syria, the Hezbollah, Iran and the Palestinians. They are even destroying the Yemen to make sure that Israel will be able to have its submarine navigate get out of the Red sea. Russia has very few friends among the elites of the Middle-east and as Russia is not ready for a war with the Anglo-zionist Empire, they are in bad shape and are force to become defensive, which is a sign of waekness

Jens Holm

Rubbish from You, Food hasnt even crossed the borderlines being there ready for many days. And before that: Assads only allowed food and other kinds of civilian help to his own side of it.

Boris Kazlov

Hey Stoltenberg, don’t you know that your moderate child-beheaders are shelling the supply routes, CIA propaganda wants to blame SAA and Russia for their failure to control their moderate terrorists, that shit doesn’t fly here, talk to NYT or WaPo.

Real Anti-Racist Action

If Russia supports the fight against terrorism, then the Syrian army needs highly advanced anti-missile shield in the Golan Heights to defend against the ISIS-air force which fly’s from Tel Aviv.

The Islamic State actually operates at the borders of Israel, but the country is not threatened just because Israeli authorities support both the ISIS and the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (previously known as the Al-Nusra Front or the Jabhat al-Nusra).

“Not only ISIS, of course, or Daesh, not only al-Nusra; anyone, any terrorist who holds a machinegun and started killing and destroying in Syria was supported by Israel, either indirectly through the logistical support on the frontier, or sometimes by direct intervention by Israel against Syria in different areas in Syria,” Al-Assad said.

John Whitehot

xD

chris chuba

Time for an S300 battery. If the U.S. accidentally approaches Deir Ezzor again then a radar lock will be their chance to leave.

Chris

This is very dangerous the next level escalation is clearly for Syrian forces to start downing US fighters as they have been doing with the Israeli aircraft (2 or 3 Israeli fighter jets down already?) How will the US respond when S-300’s start taking out there fighter jets?

jj

All Syrians did today is fire “warning shots” at a U.S. drone over them near Deir Ezzor. That’s it. They are to afraid to shoot done U.S. planes, even if they are being attacked.

Jens Holm

Agree with jj.You cant compare to the Israelis. They have their own agenda as well as Syria and Hisbollah has.

1) Nato can immidiatly send more than 200 – 250 F16`s instead of 2. Der El Zor or anywhere else in Syria can be taken by them as well as many other jets and rockets incl. from an incomming French hangarship.

If Assads dont like that, he should take out at least 3 airbases and a hangarship and we will still come – From Greece, Italy, Bahrain and Saudiarabia and at least one american aqnd one brittish hangarship can arrive witing about 14 days if its a war.matter.

2)They and we can ignore a few loses.

3) We can jam the primitive Syrian systems down or eliminate everything airborne.

Boris Kazlov

Nice daydream , Italy, Greece coming to the rescue, wait a minute, they are too busy rescuing themselves to honor commitments to LGBTs

John Whitehot

“we”. LoLz

Jens Holm

Yes “we” are Natos and has active airplanes bombing ISIS now and then. We might have some educating Shias in Iraq and Kurds as well. Our airplanes are in Iraq and at Incirlik in Turkey.

Its not a new thing. Think Syria is. But Iraks are for several years and F16.

John

This was exactly the point of the peace initiative; to create a mechanism for communication between Russian backed forces and US backed forces. The US has dragged it’s feet, talked often about a lack of trust……. and then goes ahead and pulverizes an SAA unit fighting none other than ISIS. It doesn’t get any more prophetic or stupid than that. A real political victory has been handed to everybody opposing US involvment and leadership. This was a bad one folks.

jj

The “peace initiative” was a bad idea in the first place. The U.S. is the main factor behind the whole war and supporting terrorists to overturn Syria’s government and replace it with a puppet. U.S. did this in Ukraine (though the people in eastern Ukraine don’t agree to it). U.S. has been and is an ISIS supporter. In select cases they might fight it, if they have an alternative anti-Assad force ready to take its place. Lavrov and the Russians betray Syria by pushing to bring the U.S. into the situation. Russians should just help Syria destroy the terrorists. U.S. can’t be trusted so it should be avoided as far as possible. These deals prevent the Syrian army from protected itself and its country properly and if Russia is not willing to step in and cover this gap, then it should never be making these “deals” in the first place. And this current one was pushed by Lavrov. Does he really think he’s going to solve the war and end up with a Nobel Prize of something? He is too deluded and dumb if so and he needs to go.

Boris Kazlov

The US rushed to the ‘peace’ initiative to prevent the utter route of the terrorists.

John

Us policy is bad news. We arm and cover for anybody who does things we like. It has been going on forever. In past decades we backed dictators left and right, in many spots on the globe. It´s not a short list. Right now, we have either been giving comfort and aid to terrorists ( e.g. PKK fighters willing to party it up in Syria on our behalf ) and/or turning a blind eye to weapons being passed anywhere and everywhere. I don´t see this circus having positive results for humanity in the end.

As for Lavrov and the Russians, as well as Assad, they know sacrifices have to be made. It is just unexplainable to the families of people who are killed. Sometimes one must look stupid or foolish to win. A good day to you jj.

Jens Holm

Well to me thats internal shit of the wurst hypocrative and manipulative kind. Not a bread has arrived to any civilians outside the Assad autonomes. It cantt even come into the country.

And more: At least 95% of aid to civilians has only being allowed to be distributed to his supporters.

Russsians seems not to could change that. Its 1 SAA unit and might be the first and oonly one. Once.

And what have we seen dayli – Bombardments of everything, which are not under Assad control with dead civilians every day incl. bombing hospitals systematicaly, throwing gas and Barralbombs.

No wonder there is an uprise. All suorrrenders will probatly be killed. 8-10 million refugees cant get Assads to resign. Reform against uprise – NO-NO.

And well: So far we are 67 countries. Thats Nato and more to. The bombs at Der El Zor wasnt even from US airplanes.

It doesnt matter to me if we should hit Asssads very hard now and then, but ISIS has first prioritet – And then might be alive as a dwaft leader in the outskirts Syria.

John

Hey Jens. I really didn´t get much out of what you were writing, other than you prefer that Assad goes. It´s cool, you have your take. Have a great day.

Boris Kazlov

Kerry had a revolt of his staff backing the violent overthrow of the legitimate Syrian government, it does not get clearer than that.

jj

The number killed was more than 100, not just 62. And it looks like the U.S. knew Syria was going to send a large number of forces to the area. U.S. let them gather and then went in for the kill. Plus I’ve learned that Syria has been allowing the U.S. to fly drones over it without doing anything. It seems scared to protect itself directly from the U.S. and Russia is afraid to take actions against the U.S. as well.

Joseph Scott

This sort of thing isn’t a serious threat to Syria. This kind of gambit can’t just be repeated as often as wished. There is a small and finite amount of times you can ‘accidentally’ attack someone before it becomes unmistakably obvious that either you did it on purpose or you are a complete incompetent. Neither of those results suits the political establishment or the military (who, incidentally, already have divergent views of goals and methods.) The US is running out of cards to play, and thus they resort to such a futile one-off attempt, because they’ve got nothing better in their hand.
