On August 19, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) shelled the southern Idlib countryside with “long-range rockets,” according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The rocket strikes, which took place in the morning, targeted the vicinity of the towns of Haranabush and al-Sheikh Bahr in the al-Zawiya Mount. No losses were reported as a result of the strikes.

The SAA likely used BM-27 Uragan or BM-30 Smerch heavy rocket launchers. The BM-27 has a range of 37 km, while the more advance BM-30 can hit targets 90 km away. Both systems can launch cluster rockets armed with anti-tank munitions.
A day earlier, Russian warplanes targeted the same towns in the al-Zawiya Mount. The airstrikes were a response to a new attack on a joint Russian-Turkish patrol on the M4 highway.
The al-Zawiya Mount is occupied by al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and the Turkish-backed National Front for Liberation.
Recent reports revealed that the SAA is preparing to launch a new operation in the al-Zawiya Mount. The militants may launch a preemptive attack from this area.
The liberation of Idlib from the terrorists is imperative for the peace process to be able to get real traction and set the conditions for a political solution in the Syrian arab republic. Otherwise this war can go on indefinitely I’m afraid.

Russia doesn’t try to please anybody. There is no such thing as good Russia -Turk relations (just interests). Turks have shot Russian jet killed pilot assisted many other anti-Russian incidents while Russia have “accidentally” killed about 40 soldiers and many other wounded. So no love or “friendship” or “good relations”
Without direct support of Hezbollah, Iranan militias, the SAA is not strong enough that decisively change the situation. Russian special ops troops will not participate any more in any of the conflicts supporting SAA. Just Russian air force will continue (and only when peace agreement breached) Without Shia support no offensive is possible and shows real facts on the ground that SAA was never really capable to make serious advances completely left on their own.

I agree that combat must continue and you can try with “pan Arab” army but nobody is crazy about getting killed for Syria if Syrians themselves are not ready to do at least the same.
